I do.t know about you people but I'm boycoting big chains such as petsmart afterasking for large crix and getting small and seeing this poor fellow at the end of a shed in a bone dry cage and with a water dish, stood there for a half hour with the manager trying not to explode and explaining everything wrong with his set up only to be told he would look into the water drip
I figured as much would happen but I couldn't bare to leave without trying I just know someomes gonna buy him and setup his cage the same way they saw.it in the store

On a lighter note my BP finally ate after a 10 week fasting yay! :)

I know it is so frustrating! I tried to explain today to the girl at the reptile store where I get my supers from. They are not a Petsmart or Petco but a specialty store that mostly sells reptiles and a few other animals. They have Senegals in a tank with substrate like the one you pictured and I told her about the hazard of it. She said they know what they are doing, have been doing it long enough and monitor it when it eats!! Well, it was awfully funny the cage was crawling with crickets and no one was there "Monitoring" it for possible substrate injestion! I get soooo mad!!!!

I actually couldn't believe LLL had substrate in there cham cages. While I was there their nosy be had bark in its mouth and it took 5 minutes for him to get the bark out. I called the guy working over to tell him and he just watched and didnt help him. That got me pretty mad

It's sad it really is people only care for one thing and one thing only

Money.

Cept everyone here at CF :)
An unholy cross between sad and boring, mate.
This forum is our only real hope when it comes to educating people. The odds are always going to look bad for us because monkey see monkey do (and we don't have the floorspace the mercenaries do). We just have to trust that anyone really responsible will at least do some research (unfortunately usually when they've got the cham. home - modern capitalism is all about the instant gratification). We will prevail. The idiots will give up long before the battle hardened veterans.
What a relief on the end of the hunger strike, :D. Do you have any idea why yet?

Well the guy I got him from said he was eating f/t which he took one from me but only after I had brained it and covered it with tuna juice
After that he was totally uninterested with them no matter how I presented them
I usually try to hold him for a bit before trying to feed him because he'll just want out and not even bother with the rats
But long story short after weeks of trying different colored rats males/females I found out
The rats have to be completely white
Female (who could blame him I woudnt wanna eat rat balls)
and they have to be live
they're just as picky as a cham probably even more

Funny, yesterday I was at a reptile store that has a few chams. They're good people, just still learning about how to care for chameleons. While I was pointing out that the sphmagnum moss they lined the bottom of their cages with could cause their chams trouble- one ate a cricket right in front of us and sucked in a HUGE mouthful of it! They'll do better.

I have influenced the Petco's and PetSmarts where I go to, to not have substrate in most of their enclosures. they actually listen to me when I tell them info.. They are pretty good about it. I told them to stay away from Chameleons because they don't know anything about them. I haven't seen one there since November 2010.

My local petshop though, will never get one! I have drilled into their heads they cost a lot and they don't want to deal with the expenses.
