so its actually not bad new but horrible news. today i came home to find my female jackson, dalila, dead, hanging on a branch with her mouth open. idk what i d id wrong. her enclosure was perfect, temps were perfect, humidity was perfect. she was drinking all the time but hadnt eaten in a few days. but the good news is i took her to the pet store i bought her from and they didnt know either. but anyways they had a female veiled there that had been suffering from mbd from the previous owner. they rehabilitated her cause before she could barely walk and now she can climb and eat and drink and lives a healthy life. they told me that i could have her for 20 bucks cause she wasnt a 100% yet. so yeah i did lose dalila today but i got to help rescue another cham.

If it were me I would want to double, triple and quadruple check my husbandry before getting another chameleon, especially an ill one. If you post the how to ask for help form about your jacksons then people here might be able to give you some pointers.

As I'm sure you already know, veileds and jacks have quite different care needs. A common problem for female veileds is egg binding or trouble laying, jacks don't have those troubles as they are live bearers.

Here's a great veiled care sheet for you https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/chameleonsinmyhouse/395-veiled-chameleon-care-sheet.html and some egg laying info https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/jannb/345-egg-laying-laying-bin.html

If you look up mbd in the search then you will find some more info on what kind of extra care she will be needing :)

Good luck and post pictures!

i defintely checked the husbandry multiple times. everything in it was perfect. it might have been a tad bit small but as far as humidity, temps, uvb, foliage it was great. and thank you for the care sheets i really appriciate it. and yeah i do understand about the egg laying from the females. and i do understand that she is sick but she is 100 times better than when i first saw her down there. she couldnt even walk before and its cause the previous owner didnt have any uvb on her. but now she climbs and eats and is happy. and actually she is shedding right now also. but yeah i also cleaned out the enclosure before i put her in there just to make sure there were no germs or bacteria from dalila.

I have lost a female jax suddenly and others certainly have as well. The necropsy on my female showed a mass of retained ova and peritonitis. Just because jax don't lay eggs doesn't mean they don't have reproductive problems. Without a necropsy you won't know why your female died unfortunately and the pet store is hardly able to tell you either. If your jax was gaining weight recently she may have been gravid.

yeah it seems like it happens quite often. and no she dint gain weight and wasnt gravid cause she was only 7 months and not old enough to breed.

Sorry to hear about your Jackson...may your little girl RIP. On that note, good luck with your new veiled...just remember to keep the supplements in order and the UVB bulb 'current' and she should be good to go! Have fun with her!

So sorry I didn't know about this! I've not heard of that happening, will remember for future :)
