Ok anyone have any suggestions on getting rid of the pests? I was cleaning the cages on Sunday when I noticed that in Angel's laying bin there were a whole bunch of gnats. I removed her laying bin but now they are in the plants. I know I read something about mixing top soil and sand in a potted plants but I dont have the funds atm to buy anymore top soil and sand. So can anyone suggest a temp. solution? TiA

i work in a garden center and we get this a lot. my suggestion. take your cam out of the cage. take the plants out side in the sun. clean cages. let the soil dry out in the sun even if you have to unearth the plant and allow for a few inches of the soil to dry. make sure the plant has very well drainage. clean up your house. they hide and wait. and they like moisture. so if you can dry them out you can get rid of them

do you water your plants in the cages? the best way to water any plant (in or out of cage) is take them to the bathroom, but them in shower and let it rain. i take the guards off the bottom and soak the plants for a while. and then let them set in there and drain. most plants are like humans and dont like to have their feet wet so drainage is super important
I usually water them outside. Use to be every Saturday I would take them outside and let them get some sunlight. But now I go to softball practice with my husband so its been moved to Sunday. There was 2 weekends though I didnt do it and just noticed on Sunday there were gnats.

If you mist the cage you are going to be watering the plants in cage essentially and no need to take plants out to water no? Just curious why would need to take them out to water. Oh btw Gnatrol will address the gnats and is ok to use on reptiles. I had the same issue and was over watering my plants and then my friend said to stop over watering and do a small run of gnatrol to stop the larvae from hatching and thus ending the cycle..
