Gizzy update

I just thought i`d give a quick update on Gizzy. We have just visited the vet for another antibiotic shot and he is amazed by Gizzy`s progress, so much so that she does not have to return for 5 weeks when her stitches will be removed (barring any downturn). We have been given 4 more shots to do at home to save her the stress of the journeys back and forth.

As for Gizzy herself, she has now returned to her usual happy mischievous self and is eating, drinking etc as normal. Fingers crossed, her ordeal is almost over. Thank you all so much for the help and support over the last week it is really good to know that there are people who know what you`re going through and willing to offer advice - i can`t tell you how much we appreciated it.

I am really happy to hear Gizzy is doing so well, poor little doll she went thought the mill. You do have lots of friends on the forum who are here for you. i know how you feel even with the minor problem with Tuffy as compared to Gizzy, all the support sure does help. The rest of the world just doesn't "get" us and our various creatures.

What brilliant news, Sally! Your vet sounds absolutely wonderful! Peole on here are really so very kind and supportive - I certainly needed everyoen whilst Lily was poorly. We are like oone big happy cham-family on here! Good luck with giving Gizzy the injections - did the vet show you what to do? I was dreading having to give Lily any meds, let alone an injection. I really don't know if I could do it myself!

Thanks guys. It really is true Laurie that people just don`t understand how a reptile can be such a huge part of our lives. It is amazing how many people think Chams don`t have personalities and just sit there all day basking. Poor little Tuffy - any illness just tugs at your heart strings when you are unable to help them yourself.

Tiff - I have to confess I chickened out of doing the injections so my other half Chris was taught by the vet how to do it. It does look pretty straight forward, but i`m terrified of getting it wrong

I wonder if a case report from your fantastic vet might be a good reference to have on the forum? Egg binding occurs so often and many vets our newbies end up going to have never treated it. We could save the report here and offer it to help the other vet and the owner. What do you think?

That`s a good idea Carlton - I am not sure if the vet could find time, but i will mention this when we see him again in 5 weeks. I know there are few vets who are knowledgable and practised with this kind of surgery - I found only 2 in Yorkshire and thank heavens I picked the right one.

I thought i`d just add a couple of pics now my little soldier is feeling so much better. We treated her to a new fiscus and a pothos plant and she has really taken a liking to the fiscus

Aww Sally, she looks amazing! Is that bruising on her side where she had her op? Her colours are so nice and bright! I am so glad that she continues to do well for you. How are the injections going?

Thanks She has a scar either side from her op and a small amount of bruising too, she will be going back in 5 weeks for her stitches taking out. We haven`t had to do the injections yet as she has them every three days. My other half has been volunteered for that task because i`m a big chicken

Gizzy is better than ever and has a huge appetite which is good right now as she lost a bit of weight after the op. Pre op she was 185g three days later she had dropped to 125g so the vet will be happy if we can get a little more on. I`m thinking i might go there myself if they can alter your figure so dramatically
