Getting used to you...

How long does it take for a chameleon to get used to you and not stress out when you're around?

I'm a new owner of Jackson's Chameleon and I just wanted to get some information on health and safety. I've had him for about a week.

Also, during the day he's a darkish greenish color with dark green stripes and spots, but mostly green. Is the normal or should they always be vibrantly green like at night when they are sleeping?

it will take a while you need to hand feed him and also make sure your arnt handling him a whole lot

hand feeding him with make it so he connects you with food which is good lol just have patience and it will happen

Its all in the personality of the cham but in most cases it just takes time for your cham to get used to you. I have had my cham for about 5 months and she is just now starting to trust me. I could trick her into walkin on my hand after about a month of owning her but now if i put my hand in she crawls onto it knowing she gets to go out. Also i have noticed chams are like a dog on a leash when they are in their cage. They become much less aggressive when outside their home, just in my experience anyways.

Awesome! Thank you for your replies. Also, should I be worried about his darkish color during the day? His tank is 16x16x25, the temp ranges from 70-80F, and the humidity ranges from 60-90. Will he start becoming more green during the day the more he gets used to my presence?

Most likely he is just stressed from being in a new environment. As long as all his needs are being met he will flourish and begin to show you his crazy colors. Once he starts gettin used to you, you can take him outside for some natural sunlight if weather allows you to. When my cham is outside she shows her colors the brightest. Dont bother him though by always trying to hold him to get used to you, it just takes time. :D
