well lets start by saying all of my chams are and have been for the most part very healthy i believe always eating and cruising hunting for bugs, except my 1 yr old nosey baby boy, he usually eats 5 large meals a day, wax worms occasionally and krickets i try to change it up but these are the three staples i usually feed.

i have a 2x4 screen glass cage combo, that baby boy is currently being housed astro turf on bottom real ficus large wood pearches lots of fake vines will get pics up asap.

zoo med 5.0 uvb, zoo med 50 watt day light, zoo med night light 75 watt purple..

i take him outside as often as i can min 1 hour daily usually 4 or so

basically he started to not be so interested in his food he starting a hunger strike... for the most part my game plan is to start by weigh him when i take him out for the day get pics for recommendations and keep pushing the fluids like i said pics will be up asap.

i also stopped all vitamins d3 nothing... should i still be using a daily supplement....? sigh someone please help!

Hi there, welcome to forum. Yes you should be using plain calcium every feed and calcium with d3 and calcium with multivits twice a month.

Hello Andrew

You should not have a light on at night. Your chameleon wants darkness to sleep (and its supposed to be cooler at night than during the day)

Hi there, welcome to forum. Yes you should be using plain calcium every feed and calcium with d3 and calcium with multivits twice a month.

I dont necessarily agree with this. How often to use supplements should depend on the prey offered, how you gutload, the brand of supplement, etc.

of your three "staples" only the crickets should be on the list. Mealworms should not be a staple - up to 10% of your animals diet. Waxworms should be treats only - maybe once a month, or Less.

Thanks Sandra. Point taken. As a general rule that is what is advised on here. I do find it quite confusing at times. Personally I have switched to Repeshey Calciun plus and only dust locusts and crickets. I am also using one of your gutloading recepies. It is a very steep learning curve.:D

Welcome to the forum it sounds like u have a beautiful family!.
You've already met Sandra shes our resident gutloading and nutrition expert. Shell say she's not an expert but dont belive her. she has endless blogs on gutlosd recipes to individual insect breeding guides to. And much much knowledge of chameleon keeping. shes one to listen to.

As well I agree with no light on at night not just sbecause of light being a sleeping bother but mid to low 60s is a prefered night temp to help them sleep soundly.

Also with a lot of hungerstrikes hornworms are recommended being a good source of calcium and an excellent hydrator they can make up more of a diet than mealies or waxies. Silkworms are also excellent feedrs and I've seen quite a few use them as a staple in the diet. Dubia roaches are another option among the many many! I've found variety is the key to a hunger strike if all husbandry is well and no medical issues such as parasites are present.

PICS ALWAYS WELCOMED :)
