Getting New Plants, advice preferred!

Hey guys! Back with my questions :D

Small update for those from my previous posts, we got rid of most parasites, the coccidia stayed :( We should be seeing if we finally defeat it by next week.

So! Bc I really didn’t want to risk re-contamination through the plants in his enclosure I got rid of them and now I’m looking into replacing them.

These (the pictures) are (new to me) plants I’m thinking of getting from The Bio Dude.

Are monsteras good in Veiled Chameleon enclosures? I keep seeing both positive and negative responses online. Some say they cause more problems than good, some say they’re completely safe and others say they’re only safe for Panther Chameleons.

Haven’t seen anything negative about the Bella palm and my lil guy IS and occasional muncher so I’m hoping that’s correct.

I’ve had other types of Pothos plants before but does it being Neon make it any different? Is it still safe for veils?

Is the soil in their plants safe around reptiles or do I have to get organic soil and transfer them?

Also a pic of my lil guy :D We’re still not happy to see me outside of feeding time 😭😂

All three of those are fine and safe. I doubt he’ll be nibbling on the monstera or palm as the texture is more thick and fibrous. Any type of pothos is safe afaik. I am wondering why are you buying them from the BioDude though? Buying plants on line gets you very small starter plants usually. I get my plants from Lowe’s, Home Depot and Walmart. I have gotten some in the past from Ace Hardware too. You’ll get full sized plants that you can choose for pretty reasonable prices. If your timing is right, you might even find a sale. I finally found weeping figs and they were 50% off! Double win! Some of the pothos are massive, so I’ll split them up into 2 or more plants.

I’m still planning on getting 4” plants from Walmart and such (that’s where I got my old pothos and money trees) but I’ve had problems with pests in plants that are in 6”-10” pots or bigger from them too. I can dunk a 4” potted plant in a solution to get rid of pests but can’t seem to really do that to a plant bigger than that.

I take my plants to the back yard. I remove as much of the soil down to bare root as possible, using the force off the garden hose to get into the nooks and crannies of the root ball. Then I dunk the plant upside down several times (just the leaves end) in my big bucket of soapy water. I use Dawn original dish soap. Depending on the hardiness of the plant, I’ll shake it around and rub the leaves in the soapy water. Then I rinse rinse rinse and rinse some more with the hose to get all of the soap off and any more soil that I can. I generally have several plants lined up and once all have been cleaned, they all get one more good rinse before quickly being brought in and put in my (bioactive) enclosures. No matter how thorough you clean or the size or type of plant, it is inevitable that some little buggies will be living in your plant soil. It is just part of nature. However, the unwanted pest buggies should not survive a good plant cleaning.
