Getting Lumpy

Yesterday Agnes was here 3 weeks.
She's getting a bit lumpy:rolleyes:
Still eating and drinking like a champ, and enjoying her new, slightly higher temps.
egg laying should commence soon.

I strongly suspect infertile.
I will keep the eggs for a bit just in case .... but I still think she's a virgin.
The plan is to keep feeding her well for a couple of days after laying, then go back to the maintenance routine.

*just took this picture. She still has an appetite, but seemed restless today and had a gigantic poo!

That would be good information.
I'll have to get a scale at some point ... weighing is one thing I haven't been doing and it's a good barometer for a lot of things.
Not sure if I would be doing that with her right now though ... I'm trying to leave her alone as much as possible.
Felt okay about taking the picture as it was about 2 minutes before lights out and she was heading for her sleeping spot.
She has gone down and looked at her laying container a couple of times in the past two days, but then goes right back up.
It won't be too long now.

Hey, congrats on the new addition to your family. I was just curious though as to why you raised the temps. Is it because she is gravid or because its winter?

Read the article here on keeping females:
http://raisingkittytheveiledchameleon.blogspot.com/

I raised the temps slightly (basking to about 85/86 degrees f.) and increased her food slightly, because she is cycling eggs.
Once the eggs are laid I will gradually take her back down to 80 to 82 degrees f. basking spot and less food.
Hopefully then I can keep her from cycling again until I decide to breed her.

Nice article Brad, but now I have a few more questions for ya. Firstly, I thought all females became gravid regardless of being mated or not? From what I understood from the article, by keeping the temps in low 80's, they won't produce eggs unless mated. Does this mean that you can control "gravidness" by controlling temps. I don't understand how temps can effect their biology so much. Just another thing thats weird about these guys.. anyway..my chams awake now... time to water him.

Hi Brad,

She looks very very healthy and beautiful. I hope she is carrying infertiles because if not, you'll never know which future offspring are from Kitty because of the sperm retention thing...

Anyhow, best of luck with everything and if you ever need help with anything let me know. I successfully bred veileds and I'm "right up the street" compared to most of the forum members.

Take care,

Joe

Thank you Joe, I really appreciate that!

She is quite restless this morning and a bit "off" her food.
I'm going to stay out of the room she is in as much as possible.
I did tape some paper towel to the front of the enclosure yesterday so that when she is down at her laying site she feels hidden.

This is also a bit of a mystery, as her actual hatch date was not recorded.
The best guess is between 8 and 11 months.

hmmm.
she was so restless all day yesterday.
dug a lot but never committed to anything.
Today is a new day and I'm hoping for something different.
After lights out last night, I smoothed over the dirt and sprayed it down.
She has just now gone down and started messing around in the dirt ...
keep your fingers crossed!
