It’s been almost a year now since I got my first ever reptile...my veiled chameleon Grumpy. I’ve since fallen in love with reptiles and have added a few more, including a second lady veiled cham and soon will be getting a little boy. I have spent thousands of dollars on my scaly babies. Just the basics for the chameleons have cost probably about $2000+. I’d suggest you get a bearded dragon first, but those are just as expensive. Reptiles have expensive needs with proper lighting, supplements, food, enclosures, etc. I do get great enjoyment in having them, but they are not interactive pets. So, what I would suggest you do is learn everything you can about whatever animal you may decide you want. If you have your heart set on a chameleon, then learn learn learn and then learn some more. Before getting one, have your husbandry and set up reviewed here to make sure all is correct. For younger cham keepers, it is also very important that your parents are 100% on board with you. Too many kids have come on here with a dying or very sick cham and their parents think, ‘it’s just a lizard’ and not worthy of taking to a vet for even a humane euthanasia.
