General Jacksons Question

Hello, My adult male jacksons chameleon is acting strange. In the morning everything is normal, when lights turn on and sun is coming in through the window screen he is up and walking around. By about 4 pm when the sun leaves the window he descends again back to his sleeping spot under leaves and away from his lights above. Is this just a thing where he turns in early? Or does this sound like an issue. His eyes are open and moving all the way up until his lights go off, but he himself is not and he just sits at his sleeping spot until night. His temps are fine in my opinion, basking spot is 70 to 80, ambient is 68 to 75. He is misted all day long multiple times and humidity is 60 to 90 percent. Is there anything else im missing? He is a very slow mover almost like a sloth but extremely graceful and confident. If anyone could give any input to what this is I would appreciate it very much! :)

What time do your lights go off? I am assuming he's been in your care a while?

What I would assume is happening is he is reacting a lot to the natural light because of the seasonal changes. I mean my chameleons go to their sleep spots about an hour before lights out... well Ryker used to... but he's not the best example to use at the moment. Being blind has kind of screwed up his internal clock a bit more than I expected.

My lights are off at 7 pm. He has been in my care for over a month now. He really seems to be going off the natural light, because literally nothing else seems wrong, but saying that is always a stretch because we are talking about chameleons haha. I am very sorry to hear Ryker is blind. How did that happen? I hope he is hanging in their :)

He's showing improvements with things I have been doing. My vet and I honestly have no idea how became blind. And he's not completely blind but definitely would be considered easily legally blind if he was a human. He may want to adjust with the season/sun change? You might want to try adjusting his light settings a small bit at a time. Might help him.

Do you know if he was wildcaught when you got him? He could just be taking time to adjust to the lighting schedule and dealing with normal fake lighting, especially if he's a relatively recent import.

My Jax does the same, he turns in earlier but is awake before lights on and will then just chill on his sleeping branch until basking lights come on at 7am, then he makes his way to the top does his basking and whatever he does during the day and around 5-6PM he starts going down again, will chill on his sleeping branch and fall asleep half an hour to an hour before lights off.

My panther wakes up later and goes to bed later and lives his life more around the times of the lamps...

I think my jax follows the light outside while my panther that's more shielded from the window will follow the lighting of the enclosure.
I have adjusted the lighting to match outside but that has as an disadvantage that I basically only see a sleeping jax during the week.

Just make sure you have a proper temperature drop at night.

what my cham normally does is he is basking until his lights go out (around 5-6) and then when im reading i usually have a side lamp on. as soon as the lights are out he races to his sleeping spot and just calmly waits till i have my light off. that is unless he finds a shady spot to sleep
