Not sure if allowed but i Think it´s of importance. The US together Ecuador goverment are planing to use the Galapagos Island for military operations. As a reptil comunity, give chameleons but I bet alot of people like tortoises and iguanas i thought you may want to read about this.

You can probably find other reports on news webbsites about it aswell.

here is even a petition to stop it.

Doesn't surprise me. The US is very good at destroying islands just look at Bikini Atoll.

But they can do conservation aswell as with Yellowstone. And because of this that I wanted to bring this to people´s attention. military operation in Island can end really bad like with Guam and it´s native birds.

I don't have much hope for our petitions when it comes to this stuff. All we can hope for the creatures of the world is that enough of them get bred in captivity and can at least live on through zoo's, hobbyists, etc. Animals living in their natural habitats are doomed sooner or later.

This is bull, it's not only the US, many other countries are destroying nature everyday.

Hopefully they don't create a real Godzilla there.

Absolutely, it's a human problem
Agreed. Most of us humans don't realize we are destroying our home as well. And don't even get me started with politicians who think climate change and global warming are myths...

As for this particular proposal, its a difficult issue. The US military wants to use an existing airfield on the island so, hopefully, there wouldn't be a lot of habitat destruction to make that air field capable of operating US aircraft. That also depends on what types of air craft the US decides is necessary to conduct the anti-drug trafficking missions...

What would the short term and long term effects of constant, loud military air craft be?
Noise pollution, light pollution, air pollution and physical pollution (increased human population would increase garbage).

Are the native species able to adapt to this sudden change after they had millions of years to slowly and precisely adapt to that particular island chains habitats?

One saving grace of this whole thing is that Ecuador states in its national constitution that the "establishment of military bases or foreign facilities for military purposes shall not be allowed.”
