Is there anything wrong about our species keeping other species on this planet from becoming fully extinct?

Are you asking if people believe it's okay for humans to continue to raise/cause enough problems for certain species of animals to become extinct and to post reasons why the individual may or may not believe it is okay?
If you are, I'm kinda split on this one. You have to consider human rights, poverty, illness, corruption, starvation, etc. Then (iMO) you have figure out if you believe that people deserve what they are given or if they just so happen to have certain circumstances put on them. Once you've figured that out, you have to ask yourself, do you care more about people or animals? Then, I think you should consider the scientific reasonging for why it may or may not have disastrous outcomes and whether you believe that the potential out outcomes are substantial enough to help you decide.
BUUUT, I don't think (at least!) 95% of the US population is educated and/or intelligent enough to fully take those questions (as well as a million more) into consideration when making their opinion. Shoot, look at what the US has done to Guam, Cuba, and the philippines! Look at how much we can't even help 'our colonies.' I think it's time for another revolution, be it radical/extreme or not.
It's kind of a question of save one kill, a hundred? Or save a, hundred kill one? [as a side note: I vote we fight wars with only hand to hand combat! Let it be a battle of skill, not guns.]

I've kind of had this conversation with friends at work before. Extinctions are a part of earth's history; I'll never get to have a trilobite tank. Changing conditions can drive a species to extinction, or mutational load due to limited gene pool; or modification with descent may result in the loss of ancestral species (no more Archaeopteryx; but descendants of genes may persist in sparrows and turkeys).
My feeling is that human activity is something humans have control over, and that, in cases where human activity is pushing species towards extinction, that ought to be curtailed.

Just curious how many people on this forum are for or against keeping species from not passing on?
Do any of you feel keeping them in captivity and trying to re-populate them is a good idea?
We all know that we humans learn a thing or two studying other species "insides" and "outs"
Do any of you think the future will be more or less ethical when it comes down to keeping our species in better "shape"?
Scientists continue to find more and more ways to help ourselves from dying early.
I would just like to read some opinions, thoughts on similar topics.

i feel the earth doesnt need our species, we can do so much good in the world but also we also go the other way around.....ethics?
hmmm....im afraid as we continue to change and evolve, we will stop being human...and transcent to something else....of course this is talking about way past my own life time...but maybe there will b no such thing as ethics....i fear it because it discontinues the human condition wat makes us irrational beings controlled by our emotions .... i love being irrrational
.....the undescribeable feeling that drives us to stir action without reason , simply just because.....ironically i believe we will reach world peace with the absence of the human condition....because so far with it, we have been through so much...

For many of the questions you ask, I would say I'm in favor of it. Ecosystems are set up in a very delicate balance, fine tuned over thousands and millions of years. So when species die out that aren't really supposed to die out due to any "fault" of their own (failiure to adapt, inbreeding, mutations, etc.) suddenly you have a hole in an ecosystem that might really depend on that species to function properly. You don't know if it'll have a domino effect and bring down several other species as a result. So I think it's important to preserve what species we can (IDEALLY by preserving their environment) and reintroduce those species if it's a good idea in that scenario. However, in most cases no animals bred in captivity will ever see the wild. Especially our pet chameleons, I guarantee you that by breeding a pair of Jackson's you're not helping repopulate the Kenyan forests, for example. And in the case of some species, such as cheetahs, there just isn't enough genetic diversity left in the world for them to really make a full comeback.
And now to the good bits the dinosaur thing? Sign me UP! Where can I donate? lol I would like to be on that project so badly. I've been reading about the research behind it for years and I think it's fantastic. I want them to do it so badly. It would be absolutely fascinating to be able to manupilate genes like that and go backwards in time. Bringing back neanderthals isn't so much up my alley but I don't have problems with them trying. The important thing is that even if you don't create a living creature, the discoveries made along the way of trying to achieve something like this are incredibly beneficial. Just by researching on the chicken genes scientists have disovered so much about birth defects and developmental biology, and that is important information to have.
I don't know about ethics. I was never the most popular person in my bioethics class lol Many ethics will stay the same, and some may change as society changes.
