I have a male red bar panther chameleon, how much free space does he need in his cage? Should the cage be packing with plants and vines or should he have lots of free space?

Everyone sets up their cages differently, but for the most part we can agree that they need many walkways and places to hide. It is really up to you. There is not a set way to have your cage. Just make sure you have a basking branch under your light about 8 inches down that runs horizontally. I think the closer we have the cage to their natural habitat the better. They come from the rain forest so lots of foliage is good.

I try to provide a variety of "bushiness" in different parts of the cage. One main reason I prefer larger cages...more room to work with. Your cham will want to be able to choose how exposed he wants to be at different times of day. Generally, more exposed open areas at the top of the cage where he'll go to bask and absorb UVB. Bushier areas lower down provide more humid, cooler, and visually secure places he can retreat to if he wants.
