Free Range UVB Lighting Question

I don't mean to hijack this thread. But I have a light question now that I have read this. I have a 5.0 and the free roam will be a six foot tree. The area around the tree that he will be able to roam is approx. 2 1/2 feet. Is this 5.0 enough UVB? By the way, it's 18 inches.

Barb, a 5.0 is fine if you can get them to spend at least 1 hour a day 12-18" away from it or closer. You might be able to trick them by putting near the feeding/watering/basking areas.

Thanks. That's the answer I wanted to hear. But, I would have changed things if it wasn't the answer I wanted to hear I will keep and eye out to make sure he spends enough time under it.

So as long as they get at least 1 hour of uv a day they shall be fine?

I ask because when I tried out my veiled in a free range for a week he would spend most of his time at the back of one of the trees away from the uv, besides when he was basking under the power Sun bulb/sun glo bulb ( cant remember which it is lol).

Didn't see a follow up on this, so I thought I'd ask for clarity: 1 hour per day is safe for UVB? I keep my panther in a 48" enclosure most of the time (85%+) which has a CF 5.0 and a 5.0 tube bulb on top, but on occasion, I let him spend a couple of hours in my kitchen free ranging. I have a 7' ficus connected with faux vines to a large wooden perch that hangs in a window. I just want to make sure it's ok for him to be away from the bulbs for a few hours a day, a few days a week in that setup. While its still warm, he gets full sun time, but with winter approaching, I want to be sure he gets enough!
