I'll be getting a male 3 month old veiled cham within the next couple weeks and i was wondering what other cham owners start their babies out on for food. Pablo only had gutloaded and dusted crickets, thats all i can get locally but i know there are alot of sites to order live food off of. any opinions on what to start him out on and good sites for ordering live food from would be great!!!! thanks everyone, you guys are awesome :D :) :p

Anything that you can feed an adult you can feed a baby but in smaller sizes. So baby hornworms, silkworms, roaches, superworms, mantises, etc. Maybe try something like tiny superworms first and see how he likes worms, as I think some young chameleons don't usually go for worms because they are less active than other insects. At least superworms are cheaper and you can always let them grow up and you can try again when he's older, as these worms last for months and months. Hornworms are definitely a favorite in my household, however.

Any of the forum sponsors that sell insects are great, we don't allow them to become sponsors unless they are reputable.

I feed little Yuki flies, but I'm not sure I would necessarily recommend them. She refuses to eat her crickets now, and is not fussed about worms. She loves the flies though.... Maybe every now and again as a treat? They're hard to gut load, which is why they're not good as a staple :)

Fruit flies! :) always as part of a varied diet but they are officially my favourite feeder. Babies love fruit flies - I love watching babies hunt fruit flies :D

Fruit flies are a bit small for a 3 month old veiled though, aren't they? Probably depends on how small the animal actually is... but if you're going flies, might as well be the regular ones. They have a bit more on them. The blue bottle flies are fun to watch, annoying if they get out though. (We have 3 cats though, so they take care of any stray flies really quick!) :D

True I guess......get the biggest fruit flies you can......I think my girl was greedy enough to eat the last few even when she was 4 months old :D

okay awesome!! i read on a different thread that some people think superworms arent good to feed them too often because they are more "fatty", whats your take on that?

thanks for all the ideas guys! fruit flies are the only other live food i can find locally so i think ill see what the quality is of them and maybe use them if they are good quality, if not ill order some from one of the sponsors. im going to look at what are offered by the sponors for food and then ill let you guys know what i think i'm gonna offer him!! :) im so excited to get him home!

this blog is awesome, thank you david! you always know where to get the best info! :) this will make formulating a diet much easier. haha yes i do! i think since its been shown that they will get rather stuck on superworms ill make it a smaller part of his diet, so he doesnt go on a hungerstrike for more superworms lol.

i am also wondering about feeding him fresh veggies like romaine lettuce? ive hear people say its important to do so for vitamins but im not sure about it. anyone feed their chams veggies??

It can't be that important. Rinty ate a small piece of strawberry once......but he prefers his food to move :)
Gutload the feeders, offer him a little fruit and veg if you like, he might go for it.........

that's what i was thinking too, they like to watch their food squirm haha. ill try it out just to see what he thinks, if he likes it good for him, if not no worries!
