Ok, so i am new to chameleon caring and i was wondering if any1 can inform me in all of the edible foods that a vieled cham can eat(from baby to adulthood) im not an expert when it comes to researching things on the net..... thanx every1 -=)
well as far as insects go, some popular feeders are crickets, dubias roaches, locusts, superworms, silkworms, hornworms, phoenix worms, waxworms and meal worms although mealworms would probably be the poorest choice of all of these. Some veild's will eat fruits and vegetables. Also, some will munch on the plants in your enclosures so make sure they are safe and not toxic. I know some like the hibiscus flowers on the hibiscus plant. Oh, babies you obviously have to be careful of size of the feeders you give them.
i see that u gave me the insects that can be eaten, and thanx for that!
now im jus wonderin if u, or anyone else who cna please give me a list of all the veggies and fruits that vields like, if its not too much to ask?
thanx again
You can feed the veileds dandelion greens, kale, collards, endive, escarole, mustard greens, slivers of carrot, sweet potato, sweet red pepper, zucchini, squash, apple, pear, berries, etc. The greens and veggies can also be fed to the crickets, roaches, locusts, superworms, etc. After all, you want the chameleon to have a nutritious diet, so you need to look after the insects too.
Kale, collards, dandelion, mustard greens, endive, escarole, turnip greens, dark lettuces, squash, carrot, sweet potato, apple, raspberries, etc. The non-leafy items have to be cut up in to very thin pieces so they can eat it. Not all veileds like veggies or fruits.
Other insects include fruit flies, house flies, blue bottle flies, snails, some butterflies, some moths, stick insects, cicadas, katydids, Other roach species (discoids, lobsters, and lateralis being very popular) isopods, some caterpillars, spiders, etc. All prey items should either be collected from sites that are as far away from housing and high traffic roads OR should be cultured instead of wild caught. Flies and snails for example should be cultured or bought online as they can carry parasites.
ive had no luck with getting my veiled to eat veggies yet, he did take some lettuce but spat it out. he is only around 3 months tho and a bit on the skinny side so im not that worried about putting him on a diet yet, just making sure his crix are well fed.
thanx evry1, this really helps alot! now i can go to this and have a checklist of all the expansive varieties of foods for my cham =).
So, how many of u ave a female vield chameleon? only reason why im asking is cuz i wanna see if there r differences in the amount of food they shuold take + if thier diets differ?
