Foggers

I was just wondering what those little foggers you can put in a dish of water are actually called. Are they just called foggers?

Are the reptile foggers the same as the led foggers?

Some of these "foggers" are intended for decoration and include a colored light. I think the LIGHT is the LED, not the fog producing part of the mechanism.

Small terrarium foggers use the same basic technology as ultrasonic room humidifiers. Small foggers have very small water reservoirs so you have to fill them a lot. They also don't seem to last very long if you use them a lot or if they ever run dry. An ultrasonic room humidifier will have a much larger water reservoir, will produce a lot more fog in the same amount of time, and they seem to be sturdier. You can put an ultrasonic room humidifier right next to your cage and direct the fog through the cage mesh with a piece of flexible pool tubing or pvc water pipe. There are lots of examples how people have done this on the forums.

I understand that the light and fogging mechanism are two seperste things I'm just wondering if the led lights would bother the chams if I had it running often. Also how long do you leave the foggers on for and how many times per day?

I don't know how the chams would react to the lights. Don't use it at night obviously. We can't really tell you how often or how long the leave the fogger running, because your particular cage setup and room humidity level will affect the level in the cage. It will be trial and error. You can't run the fogger until the water level drops past a certain point or the fogger will be damaged. The fogger info should give you an idea how long you can run it before the unit quits. It may have an auto shut off but may not.

To figure out how long and how often to cycle it, here's what I would do. On a day when you can be around, set everything up and spray the cage as you normally would and check the humidity level to be sure its where you want it to be. Then, let the cage dry, and keep track of the change in the humidity level until it is too low. Start the fogger and let it run until the humidity level rises to a good level again. Shut off the fogger. Watch the humidity level drop again. This test will tell you how long you can wait between fog cycles, or after misting cycle.

Ok thank you, I'll try that tomorrow. I just got a fogger from a pet supply store nearby, dang they're expensive! Considering you can get the led ones for like 15-20$ on eBay i just payed 50$ But I really wanted it to go with this waterfall I have and the two are meant to go together, oh well, I don't mind spending $ if it's for my chams

Don't know how much the foggers at your pet supply were, but I wouldn't be surprised if an ultrasonic room humidifier from a hardware store or a pharmacy was less expensive. Same fogging technology, different unit design.

Oh well, too late now ;)
