Hey guys I've been a forum member for 3 years or so now and have been into chameleons my whole life! I want to get into possibly breeding and such though and want really legit setups, I was wondering if you guys could tell me which is better, a misting system or a fogger system? Seems you can get into a nice one of either for a similarish price, let me know what you guys think, and why : )))) thanks!!!

Foggers and misters can provide different benefits depending on what you need in your particular situation. You are in Boise which may mean your indoor climate is very dry (central heating in winter, AC in summer).

A fogger will raise the humidity level of your cage without creating a flood, but unless you run the fogger all the time it won't tend to create a lot of heavier droplets for your cham to drink from. If your situation is dry a fogger can help maintain higher cage humidity between hand spraying sessions.

A misting system can provide drinkable water when you are not home to spray, and it will also help keep the cage humid. But, if your situation is very dry you may end up needing to cycle the mister fairly often which will need more serious drainage and run through a lot more water every day.

You can also use a combination of both...a mister to provide a regular source of drinking water once or twice a day, but a fogger cycling in between misting cycles to bridge the humidity gap and stabilize the cage a bit more.

I usually use a combination of HAND misting to let the chams drink, but a fogger to stabilize the humidity. Works great.

Great info Carlton!

I also do a combination of the two. I have 4 cages and run them all with a misting system and two humidifiers. I just got my cool mist humidifiers at walgreens and plumbed them so the mist comes out of a section of PVC at the top of the cage. I have my misting system go off three or 4 times a day and then I have the humidifier fill in between those times. workes great but a fair bit of planning will need to go into drainage.

Thanks so much guys! Any suggestions on which fogger to get??,: )

be careful how often the fogger goes off and how wet the cage stays, it can easily lead to RI and then you got real concerns. I have been on the phone with my breeder and he advises against foggers and misting too much the chamleons dont get rained on everyday and 5 times a day at that... so why would you intentionally rain on them. you see the point. He suggests a dripper and misting the plants couple times a day max and if you have humidity issues than get a wal greens humidifier and humidify the room they are in not the cage.

I know this was from December, but I just wanted to let anyone know on here that it really depends on the area you are in. I am in northeast Texas (dry, dry, dry). I use a fogger and mist(spray) my male veiled's enclosure about twice a day. My fogger is set to come on every other hour (that is the appropriate time in my area to keep the humidity where it needs to be without collecting too much water in the bottom) for 15 minutes each time. It also acts as a dripper for drinking water the way that I have it set up. My chams urates are always white. No hydration problems.

However, I have fake plants so I am going to get a live plant soon to help with humidity so that I don't have to run the fogger as much. I have had this set up for five months.
