Flying food question

I've seen George really come to life when he's had a fly that's got into his enclosure. I'd like to offer these now and again.
I was wondering how people store these and how do you dust and put them in enclosure?

We can get blue bottle fly pupa or spikes- I usually get the pupa in a batch of 500 and break them up into deli cups with food & water crystals- (I get the food from the same place I get the flies from) what I don't use I keep in the fridge- When they hatch I will stick them in the freezer for under a min take them out side and switch them to a cup to dust - or I will make sure that I feed them after I know my guys have already had a dusted cricket or two. If I'm not dusting I just open the corner of the container and let a couple out- they will live in the deli cup for a couple of days as long as they have food and water.
They all go crazy for them - (even my daughter's bearded dragon)
I get them from mantisplace.com - I've heard that in the UK people will let there calci worms become flies and feed them out - but you might be able to get them from someone who keeps mantis
 
You can try silk moths too if you let some silkworms cocoon. They don't fly, but they will flap their wings.

Just saw this. Sorry if I'm confused, deli cups like the styrofoam ones? The short ones for food or for drinking?
 
I use the 1/2 lb ones that are round & clear- and I have some of the tops I saved from getting fruit flies or I poke small holes in the tops I have also I used the plastic containers that you get 3 dozen crickets from petco in - - I've been putting down a piece of paper towel a bottle cap with fly food in it and one with water crystals ( I used flukers orange cubes for water also as someone gave me a bunch and I don't use them for my crickets with all the good gut load ideas here) The paper towel makes it easier to clean out if I'm keeping the container - It depends on the weather on how long it takes them to hatch- I've had them come in starting to hatch in the summer and waited almost a week when it's been really cold.
I like the clear ones so you can see when they are hatching - I've gotten them where they have come in little mesh bags and poured them directly on the paper towel or used the tiny cups that meal worms come in. I'll keep a couple cooler room and one in the furnace room so that they hatch at stages. I usually make up some keep some in the fridge and start them when the first bunch starts to hatch. The longer in they stay in fridge the less hatch out but they will stay alive in the container for a while (I have never kept them long enough to find out how long- my chameleons eat them pretty fast)
I had them come in in the summer where they have already started to hatch- (my fault they sat in my mail box too long) I just opened the bag in the cage and let the ones that hatched out and hatched out the rest.

You can order the insect rearing cups from Mantis Place also. They come in handy for lots of things.

I ordered more dubias for him too from them. I need to order their feeder foods apparently. I will try calling in the morning and adding it to my order. Thank you!
 
The difference between someone who knows what they are talking about and someone who doesn't - Carl can say in one sentence what it takes me 3 paragraphs to try and explain- mantis place also has a section on "feeder care" that gives better instructions than I do.

Thanks. I've saved that uk site to my bookmarks. Will def be trying them. Just ordered some dubias and calci worms (Phoenix) to try him with too.
Can't believe I'm getting excited over bugs n flies ;)

I had a whole mess of house flies hatching this morning and my little flapneck is in heaven- he's really enjoying them- thanks Rebecca !
