So I bought a new schefflera plant from lowes for my ambilobie about a week ago and he loves it! but the only problem is it brought in tiny flies. im not really worried about my panther eating them since there so small and fast rather its more of a nuisance every time i open the cage one flies out.

Has anyone ever tried putting a venus fly trap in the enclosure? would it be toxic to my ambilobe? It was just a thought that crossed my mind, and it would only have to be about a 3/4" trap to eat these guys. Ya or Na? :)

Yes you could read through the venus fly trap in cage or you culd just not put it in, it just isnt a good idea to put a fly trap in a chameleon cage. If you want to get rid of the small little flys I would take the plant out and wash it off and repot it. I know what you mean though about the fly being annoying I had some but I got rid of them thank god

Yea seems like theres mixed opinions on the subject so just be safe ill leave it out. I also just ate my words, shooter was laying in his basking spot, the tiny fly landed right in front of him and he ate it in a split second!!! hahaha I should have named him Fatass:D i honestly think he'd eat himself to death if id let him. Thanks for the link cappa, you gotta love those heated topics!

Oh ya its funny watching them with those flys one of my chameleons that had the fly problem never could really eat them because they were so small and fast so he would just watch them closely which was really funnny

The Venus flytrap won't do well in a cham's cage probably. But, the "flies" are probably fungus gnats from the plant's soil. Repotting it will get rid of the eggs and they will disappear. They aren't harmful, just annoying. Probably just about every cham keeper gets them at some point.
