Fluorescent question

Hello,
I have a 4'x2'x2' cage for my panther and the fluorescent hood I have is a 2' so it fits nicely across the top. However, the part that the bulb fits into I( I think its called a ballast?) only holds an 18" bulb. Is there any way I can buy a ballast that holds a 24" bulb? I'm assuming my 18" bulb isn't enough for a four foot cage. What do you guys think? Should I just get a whole new fixture?

as far as my observations go on my vieled he will warm up on his light bulb and then bask under his uvb so instead of immediatly buying one go check ur cham might search out the uvb rays so it might not be neccassary to go out and get a bigger bulb and fixture but it will also limit the area of actuall uvb absorbation in ur cage

The 18 inch tube will provide enough UVB. But if you wish to have additional lighting for viewing just add another fixture. WalMart has them for under 10 bucks with the bulb included.

An 18" lamp will work fine for a 24" wide cage. I use 48" fixtures on my cages........... but the fixture spans two cages. but at the moment I have a 18" lamp over a 2x2x4 cage with a 10.0 (because the basking spot is a bit low).

You won't have an issue with 18" lamps.
