Fish Hook+Chameleon=not good...

Well, not sooo bad. I left my one cage open and apparently the male had harassed the female(my avitar) enough to where she left the cage. I looked around and saw her calmly perched on one of my fishing poles...
I let her crawl on me and took her off the pole but noticed she was snagged:eek:...
She impailed herself onto a large 'rubber worm' hook. Luckily the barb was removed...(I only allow barbless hooks in my pond) I had to cut her skin less than half a milimeter in order to slip the hook out...Man their skin is tough/strong! She was fine afterwards... I am suprised that she did not freak out.

Looking at the photo she seems pretty stressed. I think you got lucky it didn't go deeper or in other parts of her. If your melleri aren't getting along it would be a good idea to keep them separate. Melleri can do damage and the added stress isn't good for them. If you are going to keep them together you should really make sure there is enough room for them to separate and/or give them visual barriers.

I can contest to the skin being tough. I watched Dave Weldon do a necropsy on one of my melleri . It was neat to see how the things all go together on the inside but still sad to see her like that

Ouch! That looks like it hurt. Too bad you didn't record removing it, that would be neat.

Its amazing the crap they can get into in a matter of minutes. To be the slow methodical movers they are they can sure book when they want to. Glad you got it out without too much trouble.

Yeah, I have done necropsies on Uroplatus, their skin is super soft and a lot thinner than paper...You almost cant cut it with a scalpel, its pointless. Scissors are the way to go...

I did separate the two groups. It is just that female and the male in that cage. I know that she was wearing her stress colors, but she did not try to bite me...

I had an adult golden gecko that I hatched out escape. I found it tangled in a halloween wig under a fish tank. The worst part about it was that it had shed 3 times while being tangled before it died...
