Sometimes it takes a while for them to feel comfortable. If you go to the forum health clinic and find the form how to ask for help and fill out the form answering the questions as completely as possible we can help you give your cham the best environment.

Could you give us some info about the enclosure you're keeping him in, like what kind it is, what you have in it, what kind of lighting you're using, etc...?

A picture would be best if you can manage it.

It could be that the guy is just getting used to his environment, or it could be that his humidity or temp is a bit off.

Glad you're checking in here for info. You did the right thing ;)

Can I also get a picture of the cage as well?

How are the temps and humidity?

Do you dust feed him and what is your dusting schedule?

Is he stationary most of the day or more active?

The humidity in nevada almost does not exist so thats pretty much the same setup I have but without all the pvc pipe.

I noticed you didn't have one on the cage all I saw was a heat lamp, should probably invest in this. Its what I use, you'll need a fixture to hook it up to I have the heat lamp and uvb on a timer.

Id try all that before a trip to the vet, the humidity in my setup stays at 57 - 64. And get a gauge to check the humidity and not a crappy dial gauge.

Also if you wrap the cage in plastic it will help retain humidity better, works really well for me after misting. Just some thoughts anyway, I can remember back when my cham was a dark green at times or almost a blackish green but It would only last a few days or so.

High traffic areas can cause them to go all defense mode in color like that as well, if you have cats or interested dogs make sure nothings going on with them and your chameleon.

EDIT: Also, Id change his basking light temp to 80-85 with a lower watt light.

Right on man, I was also thinking it could be a morph but I cant be to sure on that. Ive seen some chams that are mostly black with bright colors once they are completely out of the juvenile phase.
