Yes, that's ok. You want to place him in a spot where he can get shade or sun, and for this reason, a little bigger of a plant is helpful.

Yeah I just had him out for 5 minutes I have a big tree for him!

Also you want to make sure you are really close to him because a bird can swoop down and nab him in a second. The natural sunlight is awesome for him though so great that you could take him outside!
