First time free ranging

Little Brave (or my family calls him "Paco/Poncho") took a while to get on my hand today, he wasn't really feeling like a drink (which is ok cause he can't be thirsty all the time, now can he?) so I gently nudge him around to the front of the enclosure. He is sort of panicked but isn't dark or gaping, just kind of mildly annoyed and trying to get away from my hands. I manage to gently scoop him up and I put him on my big ol' ficus.

I was thinking of leaving him there until morning. Would that be ok? To let him get used to the ficus? Or is it like relocation stress? Too much for the little baby? He isn't so small anymore so he's easy to see in the tree. Easier than I thought anyway.

He is very much awake, not really all that scared but more just overwhelmed. Just kind of sitting there looking around.

He's still in that same position now.

Also does anyone know why his one horn is growing in sort of crooked/sideways? I see it on other jackson's but I think it looks like it doesn't need to be that way.

i do not mean to turn this into a photo thread, but is hanging out with him like this good if he does not show stress or fear

Eh no one was giving any advice so I'll update what I did.

This guy seems very comfortable around the whole "I'm gonna pick you up and move you" scenario so I put him on my hand and he was basking, then he started reaching for the tree so I let him climb it and he fell asleep in it. A couple hours later I woke him up and put him back in his cage and he's acting fine. I didn't want him to go wandering off in the morning.

He is so cute. Lucky you can wake him up and move him, that is the one thing my cham does not let me do, he hates being disturbed when sleeping. So I don't let him fall asleep outside his cage.

My panther sleeps on his free range occasionally. I hate to move him after he is in sleepy-time mode.. I just make sure that the door it shut so no dogs can get in and check on him in the morning. He is usually at the edge of the tree looking at me like "Hello? Need some warmth here!" :)

I've been keeping my veiled in a free range setting in half of our closet since she was 6 months old. She is currently almost 1yr and she loves it.

I keep her basking and uvb light over her tree (out of her reach cuz she kept wanting to climb it) and she will bask in it when she wants/needs. I mist her at least twice a day.

We added a fake vine that acts as a "stair" that connects her upgraded "tree" to the top shelf of the closet where we added another house plant. (I tied together some dowel rods I bought from Home depot and wrapped a fake leafy vine around it to give her more foliage) When we aren't home she even wanders around the room (this I know because i'll occasionally find poop on the floor -___-). She knows how to make her way back to her tree though. :)

I honestly think she's much happier having freedom than being caged up. We will probably do the same for our male when we get the chance cuz she doesn't like to share, they don't usually get along, and it's not advised to house them together anyway. Our boy loved being in the tree though when we did put him in it while we played with her.

He will get the dark brown (with the exceptions of some light spots) upset jackson stripes when I move him but within a minute he's fine again.

Aww that's cute :) Yeah I get you though, I have to make sure the cat is outside before I do any ranging.

That is a great idea. Also why not divvy up the closet into halves and have hi take the other half?

I think your Jax will love the option of some free time. Both my boys rush the cage door when I open it and they have great cages. I think it is natural for them to want freedom. I think the more time Brave (Pancho) spends in free range the better releationship you have! He is so cute and I love his wonky horn!

Ahahaha here is a pic from today. He put up less of a fight to get on my finger today, I think he's getting the picture. Although when I put him on the tree he usually doesn't explore. Just stays wherever I put him.

Like this. He turns his head and eyes and only moves his hands a little but usually is too paranoid to explore. He doesn't turn stressy colors, and when I put him back he acts completely normal. I just wish he'd run around and explore his tree (since monty will not use it)
