Fiona' s 1st Vet visit.

What a little trooper she is. I noticed a black spot on her left front foot (see attached picture). I put a post on the health forum yesterday but only received one reply. Since I had been following this person I took her advice and got Fiona in to see the vet today. The black spot ended up being a sore that I am not sure how she got. The vet picked off the top layer then she squeezed out a little infection. Applied peroxide and gave me some Sulfadiazine cream to follow up with. Since she had never been seen by a vet since I got her (the pet shop was nasty) I took a stool and urate sample and she did test positive for flagellates. She was given worm medicine and goes back for another dose in 2 weeks. By the time it got to the worm medicine Fiona had just about enough of all this so she opened her mouth to hiss and in went the syringe....perfect timing. Over all I found out she in pretty good shape. Whoo Hoooo!! Yes....the vet charged more than Fiona cost...but she's worth it. I will just have to put off getting the male I want.

It's always a good idea to get a fecal on these guys. They often have parasites due to the feeders they eat. I'm glad that Fiona checked out ok except for the sore and parasites. I'd keep a close eye on that sore. She may need an oral antibiotic for the infection. Infection can quickly move into the bone. I just had that happen with my boy Amos.

Thank you for your support. I appreciate you. The vet said there wasn't much infection and if I follow up daily with peroxide and the cream she should be ok. She goes back in 2 weeks for another dose of meds for parasites so she will see of it's doing ok then.

That's good news that she's otherwise healthy and such a trooper! She is so precious. Sounds like you're taking good care of her.

My little Bosco is finally eating crickets from my hand, I'm so happy. I've been readin so much about burns and spots and whatnot that I've been watching him like a hawk, checking out every little thing. So far I think he's happy and healthy

Happy to hear Bosco is doing so well. I love reading about everyone's experiences with their chameleons good and bad because I can learn alot from both. I spend way too much time on here.

I'm curious, Bosco always hangs out under his (coil) UVB bulb more than he does his heat lamp. He spends afternoons under this, then late in the evening he sometimes moves under the heat lamp. I've attached a pic of the UVB bulb that I'm using

Your UVB is good...switching back and forth is good because the UVB helps their body absorb the calcium.
He is so cute.
