finished my first cage.

Friendly Grasshopper
so i just finished my first cage. i am building two of these. i am by no means a great carpenter but they turned out pretty good i think.
they are built out of pine 1x2's for the frame, a solid pine back, with aluminum mesh screen and a plexiglass door.
all the pine was stained dark brown, and coated with verathayne, i used a thin plastic in the bottom with a drain hole and then a grided light cover to give a flat surface. the plexiglass door was a pain but turned out well, ( i had to cut grooves in the pine to make the frame and then fit the plexi in ) the whole back panel is also removeble for cleaning.
the pictures are taken in my shop at work where i built it so it needs a good clean and polish when it gets home
please let me know what you think

dope...what did you use for the floor of the cage???

the very bottom is a cloroplast plastic like the stuff the reg for sale signs are made of, its fexible so i can put a screw throught it into my table and the middle will pull down to a hole and drain. the grid part is a light cover tile than i cut to shape so it would provide a flat surface for plants

and yes it was a total diy project, from scratch. i have detailed pics of the whole process if anyone is interested

so i finished the second one and i am going to bring them home today, onece i get them all cleaned ill take some more pics, i do have alot of pics of the build process, ill post a how to in a few days.

wow someones got talent can you describe how you made that step by step. ive been thinking about making my own.

thx for the possitive comments i am working on putting to gether a thread with detailed how too, hopefully get it up today.

It look great but I am thinking putting the grid on the floor will made it really hard to wipe out crap daily. Your directions are well done and look easy to follow.

i use a out door carpet on the bottom to cover it, i just pull it out and wash it works great and its all natural fibers that resist molds and fungus. looks better than paper as well
