Finished Enclosure

Hey everyone!
I just wanted to post a few pics of the evolution of my enclosure I have been slowly getting finished before the arrival of our new panther chameleon, who arrived this morning. I've been so busy with other facets of life that I forgot to post these. šŸ˜ƒ

Thanks! It was a painful experience to be honest, but the end result was rewarding. @Beman had some great advice along the way! Our still unnamed chameleon had a rough day getting acclimated so I decided not to play paparazzi with him just yet.
But here is a still of a video from the day before we got him that the breeder sent to me.

It looks really nice.... Just make sure you have a branch positioned below the UVB fixture at the correct distance for your UVB bulb strength. If there is not a branch below the fixture at the right distance MBD will be a concern.

Thanks! Bulb is on the rack and measures 3ā€ from the cage top. From cage top to branch is 9ā€. Bulb is Arcadia 12% so thatā€™s why the 12ā€ total distance per Chameleon Academy recommendations. Iā€™m getting a solarmeter soon which will help me be a bit more accurate. In my experience, branches spanning the width of the enclosure do seem to move slightly no matter how properly they are attached.

On a separate note, I monitored his first night over the Govee app and even with fogging from 1:30am until 6:30am (on for 30 minutes, off for 30 minutes), the humidity is still low (maxing at 63% RH). I misted for a couple of minutes before the fogger first came on as well. Fogger hose placement is the back upper left corner and the middle of the left side at the top. Fogger set on max amount. Temp stayed around 65 most of the night. Not sure how to increase the humidity without fogging continuously, and will that even work? The unit says not to fog continuously for over 6 hours straight in order to not tax the machine. šŸ«  Little guy ate voraciously today so thatā€™s good to see so soon! Any advice is appreciated!

So your distance is perfect for the UVB... Just make sure the branch is running parallel to the fixture. The solarmeter will give you spot on measurements as well.

Per fogging. can you take a picture of how you have the hose going to the enclosure? I ran multiple inlets into my atrium enclosure to span the distance of it. Issue is fog falls so you will have an area of high humidity in that area where the inlet to the cage is. If your gauge is on the other side of the enclosure you will not get accurate readings. But also if the cham sleeps away from the inlet then he will also be in the lower gradient of humidity. Other issue is if you have the tube set directly on the screen top you will actually get a build up of moisture that will block the fog. You have to have it raised about 1/4 of an inch from the screen so the fog can roll around any build up of water on the screen.

Ahh. Thanks so much. Yes, branch is parallel to the fixture. I used the fogger insert that came with my DS enclosure for one hose and maybe pushed it on too much. Iā€™ll have to check tonight when I get home. The other hose is definitely right on the screen. Iā€™ll take pics tonight and send. Gauges are not near where the fog is falling.

Also obviously hard to know where his preferred sleeping area is so soon. Maybe I can get a thin piece of PVC to attach to the hose and run along the back. Canā€™t do the DIY right now. Maybe the DYI Chameleon Guys version will be available?!

Yeah I modified my fogger line. Here are some pics of it. I used pvc pipe and T connectors then ended with an L connector and ran it across the back of the enclosure. Then you get fog disbursed evenly. I had tried what others did before this. Where they just run a line of pvc and cap it but drill holes into the pipe. This never worked for me as the holes no matter how large I made them backed up with water stopping the fogging unit.

Brilliant. You are seriously McGyver! I am showing my age with that reference!

So how is it connected to the hose or hoses of the fogger since they are so flimsy? Or do you not use one of those units? What size PVC is that?

LOL nothing I can not fix with a zip tie or going to home depot. I pulled off the flimsy ones and connected pvc direct to the top of the unit.

Do you know what size off hand? Did you use ā€œhardā€ pvc the whole way as opposed to using the softer more bendable type at the hose insert? Can you show a pic of the point of fog output? Yeahā€¦zip ties are king. After my enclosure build, I want to puke when I see them, but have a whole new level of love for them as well!

Let me guess, you have a PVC cutter as well?

LOL I did buy a pvc cutter. But it was only like 15 bucks. So I took the top portion of my fogger with me to home depot I played with different fittings to make it work so it could transition to the pvc pipe I used. Look at this post in my build thread. I show pics and talk about it a big. https://www.chameleonforums.com/thr...rge-atrium-for-my-beman-3.176158/post-1579447

Note this does not show the pvc from the machine though. Trying to find the picture of that because I went from hose up to the hard pvc. Then it was seeping water. that is when I did the change.

Thanks! Awesome. Iā€™ll probably have to go this route. My only difference is I will be putting the pvc on the wire rack, which is a few inches from the cage top. Thatā€™s still ok right? I would assume so.

Did you have to use PVC cement or did you just push them through?
It should be fine. Might want to cut short PVC pieces to attach to the T to drop the fog closer to the screen so it does not flow down the back of the cage.

I did not permanently hook together any of my pieces. I wanted to be able to pull them all apart so I could clean them thoroughly when needed. :)

I may have room to bring the piping in further from the edge. Wouldnā€™t that alleviate the need for the extra pieces?
