Finally! Got my first cham!

Went to the reptile expo here in B'ham today. I only brought $20 with me because I knew if I brought more I'd have spent it all. I went in looking for a pygmy and I found one breeder that had them. He also had Red Eye Tree Frogs for $15. Gah! I wanted to get a male for my female soooo bad! But I went in for a cham and that's what I was going to get. I got the lightest, smallest one they had. And yes, they are CB.

I asked it they would be back next month so I could get at least 2 more pymys and a mate for my frog, but they had to drive 600 miles so it's doubtful. :(

The guy offered to sex it for me, and I'm sure he told me what it was. However my niece was poking me in the side and talking to me the entire time so I don't recall. Though reading through your posts on here, I think it's a female. Now to come up with a name.....

I'll post some pics as soon as I can get them uploaded and maybe you all can help me come up with something to call her. :p

Its soooooooo funny i was just talking to some friends yesterday. People always want the smallest and most fragile one because they are the cutest, but in reptiles you always want to pick out the biggest because they are the healthiest. Get some weight on your cham and itll be alright, but let this be a lesson to all newbies, dont pick the runt of the group it usually leads to problems! WELCOME! cant wait for the pictures!

In Pygmies you don't want to pick out the biggest one since they have such short life spans anyways. The biggest ones usually are close to being the oldest. I always pick out nice healthy medium sized pygs.

So how does it feel to be a chameleon owner? I know how wonderful it was for me. Congrats on the little pgymy, hope it grows great for you.:)

Thanks to all of you. I'm so glad I found this forum.

I didn't pick the runt, just the youngest. I always try to get them as young as I can so I can watch them grow. I've been sitting here all day just watching her eat, which she did as soon as I put the crickets in with her. I'm just amazed with her. Even my roommate (who thought they were the ugliest cham of all) is all into watching her. I love introducing new creatures to people.

Meet Cammi

Here she is...

And her home. She seems to enjoy it.

I was actually just thinking about Cameron. LOL. Thanks.

My niece was driving me crazy when I was reading the posts about sexing so I must have gotten it backwards. :p

Mimimize the handling of Cameron to once every few weeks or so to check him over-they don't do well with too much handling.

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind.

My boyfriend came by last night and decided to name him Cammo. I know.....kind of a cheesy name for a Chameleon. But if it makes him take an interest in them, then I'll deal with it. LOL.

Congrats! Pygs are awesome. much diff from other chams IMO. Ha, Yea, I have a red eye fetish too! I woulda gone to an ATM. LOL!! I have three red eyes and 1.2 pygs now with 6 eggs waiting to hatch. Its exciting!! Males tend to have a dark stripe down their side and longer tails.

LOL. Thing is I got my first red eye for Christmas last year. And we've kind of made it an unspoken rule that from now on I'll get some kind of critter for my birthday/Christmas. :D My b-day is in July and there is another expo right before it. I've already put in my request and since I don't need more enclosures for some mates for what I have already (and they are so inexpensive), he really can't fuss about it. :p

Besides, I've always bought my own mother's day/b-day presents (divorced and kids were too young. gave me an excuse to do something nice for myself without feeling guilty) so if he doesn't get them, I will. hehehe
