Fertilization After Egg development?

I have a female Veiled Chameleon that is gravid and looks like she might be developing eggs inside her. At what point is it too late to introduce the male for breeding? Is it too late to introduce the male after the eggs are already :confused:inside the female?

Depends on what point of the egg development she is at. If you can see the egg bumps on her, she is probably too far along.

Using chickens as an analogous species, fertilization occurs in the first part of egg development. Sperm fertilize the egg (actual egg, not the casing we know as eggs) in the infidibulum and then a list of other processes help develop the egg, finalizing with the shell.

If chameleons are the same, which I suspect high similarities, I dont think you'll have viable eggs if you mate them now. The female will probably agree, rejecting the male.

I don't see bumps or lumps where the eggs should be. she isn't showing that much. The male is much smaller than she. he is like 4 months old I'm guessing. Do you think a lager female will reject a smaller male?

When a female chameleon chases the male with her mouth open, she's rejecting him....could be he's too young, could be she's already gravid and beyond the point of mating. Doesn't really matter why she's doing it...leaving/putting them together at their point will lead to fighting and possible injury.
