ALSO i havent been dusting the crickets but i have been feeding them before i give them to her, im just so worry that her cage set up isnt enuff so tonigh im going back to the store to get her more stuff but everything so expensive now in days. is there anything you guys recomend for me to get for her? and what about big crickets ? can she eat them ? shes still a juvenille female, so the more research i can get about her the better her life spand should be. also her mood has changed she doesnt want me handeling her ever since i put her in her new cage? but once on my hand she her color are bring greens and she seem happy and peacefull, can this be she hate been in cages ? can that be possible? thank yu for everyone time

Females Juvenile vield chameleon 2/3 months old- eye problems & others

Chameleon Info
Chameleon name: Tinny - species-&-sex- Female juvenille vield chameleon- 2-3 months. I bought her from petsmart on 4.25.2012 and since i was terrybly missinform about taking care of her , i had gotten recomended to put her in a 5gallon glass tank was ookay so by the second week i had when out and bought her the proper cage.

Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
when i first got my chameleon out her little box they had gven her in to me, she was the cutest thing i ever seen, she clime on me and was green to her brightest color, but now in days i have noticed she become nasty and started heishing and trying to bite me, i ofcorse back out as soon as i seen her turing to her native colors and than brown to black. i myself was verry disapointed and though that maybe it was because she hate when i spray water on her, this makes me think she holding some kind of crudge agaisnt for that ? either way few days after this it was time to clean her cage and well she started doing what she always does, but i some how got her out the cage and as soon as shes in my hands she turns greeen and calms down, now at this point im confuse, but for other reason i been taking her out to the shower and giving her a 20mint bath for her to drink water and shower she seem to love it, each time shes out and she even falls asleep in my hand, but now if i leave her too long in her cage she turns mad and turn this behaviour all over againg, im really cluest on what she wants at this point. Im thinkinq to just put a tree with her night light and everything next to me because to me she seem not to like her cage and enjoyes outside better wich is odd to me because i know they not suppost to be like that.

Feeding - Wax worm and crickets - What amount? i put 10 crickets and for treads i sometimes put in 5 waxworm or hand feed them to her - What is the schedule? crickets every day- crickets one every week or so- How are you gut-loading your feeders? i bought something call " Flunker's Orange cube completed crickets diet " ot say its food, water, vitamins & spriruluna. & i also feed them apples and w.e goods of fruits or vegiiies i got, i recently discover tho that iceburgs lettutes are bad for your crickets but atlaest i know now.

Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you
dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?

Thats honestly i had no clue about because everyone i asked at the store tould me if i just feed them raw potattos they going to be good for them -__- wich was wrong so no, no dusting or nothing at all.

Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how

Watering was another problem i been having on wich its cause because i though i could just spray the (fake) leafs with water and she'll be alrite as long as i keep doing that 3 imes a day and spray her and the leafs she should be okay, but no i was wrong about that too, that why as soon as i started noticing a problem wih her eyes how sometimes she had them clossed and she would like kinda sucked it in, and also notice some yellow poop mix with her regular poop and i started guving her 20min showers fors the pass 4 days or so, and she seems to love it but aside from that i but mayb 2 ice cubs 3 -4 times a day on top her cage and let them drip but im think about buying her a fottone or build her something better for her to drink.

long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?

with a home made bottle i had at home but planing to go buy a new one tonigh and yes i do see her drink.

Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings.

Black or brownish i have see it yellow once

Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?

No she hasnt , im actualying trying to find someone to set up an appointment for her to get checked out , but ever since i got her my things its i washed my hands thands use germx and put on latex gloves when ever i handel her or anything of hers.

History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to
others when trying to help you.

Im going to try to take a picture of her but i have noitced this like black circle under neath her eyes and that also kinda worrys me.

Current Problem - Her eye's been eacting up sometimes she closses one eye and leave the other one open and so on , and other times i notice her rubing her eyes agaisnt the branchest and when i hold her she kinda sucked one of her eyes in and keep it clossed so thats worrying me, but other then that shes been drinking and pooping and eating fine. Well any information about her would be thankfull because i notice out of all animals out there . Theres not many study about them and pet shop dont know nothing aside from selling a wild animal. Thank you for all your time i hope the information helps i tryed to answer everything at my best thanks.

I think a picture would help out. I'm newbhere as well and I know someone will get to you soon. This site is full of the right information and I'm sorry about the misinformation from petsmart. I hope your little guys alrigght. Best of luck!

Oh and for a female you really only need a household bulb and a clamp lamp from homedepot. I read somewhere of just using a regular fluorescent double Hood fixture with a reptisun or reptiglo 5.0 giving a low 80s temp at the highest end of the cage. Are you saying you have a night bulb for heat? These guys like it a little colder at night and def no light to disturb their sleep cycle.

Based on this first description and the added information, this cham has been dehydrated for a while (including before you got her). Dehydrated chams don't eat, rub their eyes, start closing them because they are irritated. Yes, using your AC will dry the cage out even faster. Even if she's drinking, if the air in the room is too dry she'll still get dehydrated between chances to drink.

It is NOT normal for her to fall asleep in your hand. Remember, brighter colors don't mean "happy", they mean mildly stressed or excited. Handling her will excite her, her color will change. When she's in her cage she will be getting a bit more territorial and you are the intruder. She's trying to bluff you so you leave her alone.

You MUST feed her insects well and use the dusts as Jannb described in her links. It is especially important to be consistent while she's a growing juvenile. Feed her more smaller insects rather than fewer big ones. They are easier to digest and will carry more of the supplement dusts, and there's less chance she can choke on one that's too large for her to swallow.

Give us a break! We are all spread across many time zones and have work and all the other daily life stuff.

Thanks for your info and in put and sorry if i got a little carry away but i live in new york city and for me to have found a chameleon in the last place i expected it was verry frustrated and due to the fact that not only the petsmart ppl didnt give me a book with the proper information about taking care of her i have also not done my fully research, so that first night i bought i stud up the whole night reading my ass off about her so she can have the best life.
So when i see that no one knows everything and no one even had answered my questions i got reallyy mad because this animals most be the most intresting things out there but yet NO ONE really studys them as much as other animals. verry sad thing by the way .

okay now since my basking light broke and what not i have the moon light - night light lamp on and the tempture of that is 85.F while the new huminity i bought says its 62-65 and i bought the little dripper box insted of the water fountain i will defff take pics of her in her cage nd while i hold her so yu guys can see how she acts, thank u guys for everything!:D

No im using the the night light as a basking ligh because the one i bought from petsmart eploted because it reached up too 200.f
But yes iam aware of that also i use to do dat but no more.

well im no expert but i can chime in on the supplements so your only feeding crickets that have been gutloaded with the flukers cricket/ water ? and your not dusting them at all? this seems like a big red flag to me have you gotten a chane to throughly read sandrachameleons blog ? id highly recomened it she seems to be our resident expert in that field. With a few husbandry changes and a little patients i think youll be able to give that cham a great life, also having the massive base of people on this forum that are more then willing to help anyone out with the right intentions.

Thanks alot i also think it was because of all thse litttle things i been missing out on but i fanaly took some picture of my set up my chamm so hopefully you guys can tell me what you think about this whole thing

well whats the true diminsons of that cage ? id say up the cage size a little more climbing stuff, live plants and some good thick foliage to hide in. Also you need to get something to check the huidity asap we need those numbers to make a more accurate discription , you are gonna want an average of 40-60% going in there, also how long are u misting cage for your gonna want a good 2+ mins of misting will help clean out eye a little as well as incourage drinking they seem to wait a while before deciding to drink

ima take more pics but right now my humidity levels are 80 on its tropical level and the new basking lights its given out 85-100.f

& GUEESS WHAT SHE STARTED SHEADINGGG I Think me buying reptisafe and starting to put it in her misting water and her drinking water and pluss me dusting and gustloading the crickets really helped her out to pull threw ill post sum updated pics

Thanks for everyone help :D
