Female Veiled acting wonky

Hello. This is my first post and I very concerned about her. I have a female veiled chameleon who has acted a bit out of sorts for the last two days. She is making this "coughing" type of noise, almost acting like she has something stuck. She is moving about her cage as usually, but is also lurking under branches and leafs where she normally hangs out on her fountain. Any ideas? I would appreciate any feedback.

Please post a recent photo of her and answer the questions in the how to ask for help thread at the top of the health forum so we can help you better.

My apologies. Again, I'm new to this….. please let me know if I missed answering anything and I'll do the best I can to answer.

Chameleon Info:

  • Your Chameleon - Veiled, approximately 6 months old female and I've had her a little over a month (her name is Waffles)
  • Handling - I handle her daily for about 10 minutes at a time.
  • Feeding - I give her 6 crickets every morning.
  • Supplements - I am using Rep-Cal Calcium with vit. D
  • Watering - I have a waterfall that I clean out every night and I mist with a spray bottle every morning. I have never actually seen her drink.
  • Fecal Description - She has not been tested for parasites to my knowledge but will inquire where I got her. Her poop has been consistent since I got her. Dark, mixed with some white spots. Consistent oblong shape. not slimy.
  • History - I have no details prior to her coming home with us.

Cage Info:
  • Cage Type - Glass w/screen top. 16x16x24
  • Lighting - National Geographic Dome Fixture. model 141CT 5.5 12 hours day and 12 hours night.
  • Temperature - Temps are measured by interior temp and humidity thermometer. Daytime temps are 100-105 with nighttime temps at 90.
  • Humidity - Humidity level is no less than 70. Humidity is created and maintained by the fountain and manual misting and is measured with the a gauge that is with the temp.
  • Plants - Not using live plants.
  • Placement - Cage is located on a table top near a full window. There are curtains that are closed at night.
  • Location - I am located just outside of Washington DC

Current Problem - She is making an occasional "coughing" noise. Not constant, but I'm very concerned.

tip: use calcium with out vit D at most feedings
Temp is very high in my opinion along with the humidity
Not sure about every one else

Are you only using the Rep-Cal Calcium with vit. D?
Are you using a UVB bulb?
Your Night time temp is way to high!!!! 60s and low 70s is where you want to be.
You should bump your day time temps as well.
You might want to get a larger screen terrarium very soon as well.

I don't do the rep-cal at every feeding (3x per week). Yes I'm using a UVB light in addition to the other light. I will bump the temps down on both day and night and get a larger cage as soon as I can. My apologies. I was just going by the advice of the folks at the pet store (who I now know, didn't know much…) Thank you for all the feedback!

You should be dusting without d3 everyday and calcium with d3 every two weeks. So you need to go pick up the calcium without d3 quickly. Also are you gut loading your crickets? If so what are you gut loading with?

Try to get a 2'x2'x4' screen terrarium.

Got it. I will go get that tonight. Not sure if this is considered gut loading, but I am using the Fluker's Orange Cubes. I would love a screen cage over the glass one. Any suggestions on where to get one that size?

The orange cubes are garbage. I use repashy bug burger myself. You can google it. A screen terrarium that big you can order it online. Usually most stores won't carry them that big. Check out the site sponsors like dragon strand.

Thank you sooooo much!!! I found one on Ebay by Reptibreeze but will check out the sponsors as well.
