Female Panther trouble laying eggs??

My female panther I've had for a year now is about to lay eggs for her first time, and I think shes having trouble.. Shes a year and a half, or almost 2 years and has been perfectly healthy up to this point. I don't have a temp gun, but i do have pictures of her enclosure. She has a 75 heat bulb in the furthest left of her cage, with a ubv in the center where her plants normally are & a medium size cage. Lately I've noticed times where her mouth will be wide open, but theres no sign of saliva build up ( i have heard her breathe when she does this as well...) Ive provided pics of this sinse she did this long enough for me to snap a shot. Since shes gained weight from her eggs I've also noticed shes begun to fall a lot more, and I'll find her in the potter we where using for her to lay her eggs. Shes begining to get many bruises up and down her body because of this.

The pot is 10 inches deep with 3 inches of a 1-3 mix of coconut powder we use at the very bottom of her cage, mixed with an organic no-fertilizer top soil.

....please help ): im very new at this.

Hi, welcome to the forums..

Im going to be straight to the point. I would not look for answers here. I would take her to the vet asap. She more than likely will need a calcium and oxytocin shot. Time is of the essence atm.

If she has had a laying bin all this time..Things you can do for her until a vet see's her.
1. Mist her and hopefully she will drink.
2. Keep her humidity high 70-80.
3. Soak her in luke warm water.
4. Handi-cap her cage. Give her just vines and limbs stacked on the ground of the cage..
5. Get her to a vet ASAP

So sorry to hear that your girl in not well. I'm at work on my cell and your pictures are tiny but from what I can see she looks pretty bad. A 75 watt sounds too hot for a female and they often open their mouth when too hot. Please fill out the ask for help form in the health section. Being too hot would not cause her to fall. Do you have a good chameleon vet? I would find one ASAP.

Her eyes look terrible! Poor girl, I also agree that she needs a vet first thing tomorrow morning. Hey eyes shouldn't be that swollen and oozing liquid, so those need to be checked out immediately. It sounds like there are also other issues at work that may or may not be egg-related, so a vet will be your best bet.

If she is opening her mouth because she is too hot that's not much of a concern, but if she's opening it for another reason, it could be indicating that she is eggbound or developing organ failure...or there could be other reasons.

How long has the egglaying site been in the cage?

Can you fill out the questions in the "how to ask for help" thread at the top of the health section.

I put terramycin in her eyes daily because of how often i see them closed.. but i've scheduled an appointment for her tomorrow first thing in the morning :( i hope shes going to be alright...

Is there anything i should know about the enclosure for her eggs? Is it not deep enough, or should there be less mixture in it?

Thank you for all the great advice... I woke up this morning to find she died late last night, though. Not getting another anytime soon, I need to learn before I can get another..

RIP Ziggy

I am very sorry for your loss of Zizzy. You should stay on the forums and become an active member because this is a great place to learn about chameleons.

I'm so sorry to hear the news. It can be very upsetting and sad to lose a well loved cham. Thoughts are with you. Best of luck in the future should you choose to try again.

I'm sorry for your loss.

Please do not let this discourage you. Chameleons are wonderful animals. You might want to try a male next time so you don't have to deal with the egg issue while you work out the care aspects.

after a year and a half, man thats tough!! You didnt have something right, some people need to learn then try again...Its hard to keep a animal!
