Female Panther Chameleon Swap?

Hi all-I've just joined the forum here so I can find people that can be trusted!

I have a male and female chameleon and am planning on breeding but I have a problem...they are related (either half or full brother and sister). I don't want to risk inbreeding and wondered if anyone would be willing to swap for a simela aged female?

She is beautiful, sweet and friendly and around 4-5 months old. She is so lovely that I don't want to swap her at a shop as I'd have no way of knowing she was going to a good home!

Can anyone help? I'm near Chelmsford, Essex

You shouldn't try to breed a female that is 4.5 months old. That is really young. I would recommend doing a little more research and just hanging out and getting to know people on the forum before making request to swap chameleons and possibly put another persons chameleon in danger.

how would they possibly put someones else's chameleon in danger? That really doesn't make much sense. Anyways you have plenty of time to find an unrelated mate. Good luck.

Might have better luck trying to sell her and buy a new female that you want.

They are saying that any female that was traded to the person of similar age (5months or so) and was attempted to be bred would be in danger. He is saying the cham that was traded into the breeder is being considered as someone elses cham.

What a surprise you taking any chance to be rude. If he is trying to breed a really young female then there is a possibility that he doesn't know proper husbandry for chameleons so taking on care for someone else's chameleon isn't a great idea. that is if he is planning to swap via mail. Keep being angry jack :).

Thank you wykd.

I don't see anywhere the OP said they were going to breed right away. They didn't even say a time, so instead you could ask them when they planned to breed rather than telling them they don't know proper husbandry right off the bat.

agreed !

to the poster. Welcome to the forum this is a great place to find quality information to help with all your chameleon questions. I also think you might concider selling her and finding a unrelated to breed with him. It might be the easier route. Good luck.

I also said there is the possibility they don't know complete husbandry to take on an entire breeding project and swap. It is really a lot of work and I was just trying to help. Never meant to offend anyone.

It was not implied, you assumed. You didn't even ask the reason they wanted one the same age. You could have chosen a lot better words to tell them to research more and warn them. That's how people get scared off, people assuming things that they did not imply then them getting chastized for it.

I messaged them and apologized already and offered any help I have to offer to them. Thanks for looking out though.

That's good stuff! We all make mistakes, but sometimes people find it hard to apologize. Those are usually the same people who find it hard to forgive others but that's a totally different post:D

Yeah I come off rude sometimes but I don't mean to... I just see someone on their first post, and I was in their same position, new and wanted babies! lol but they may have way more experience ext that I don't know.

Hey, this is actually a kinda nice thread. It seems that whenever a thread takes a negative turn, it stays that way & keeps on degrading. It's so nice to see a thread where people can work out things out :)
