female not eating only concerned with digging

ok so I have a 8 month old female panther chameleon. she keeps going to the bottom of the enclosure and digging in the potted plant. I provided a tub for her to dig in but she will not use it. the potted plant gives limited space to dig. she digs all day and gets no were - she is not eating but seems to be drinking more water. I found her almost lifeless in the potted plant today. I put her at the top of the cage to warm her up and she seems to be fine.... but still no eating. this has been going on for almost 3 days.

I put large rocks over the potted plant and put more branches leading to the tub of dirt...

is this normal.

also I have not breed her yet. I assume these are infertile eggs

try to put her in the bin and cover the cage up for privacy. They don't like to be watched from what I understand when laying eggs.

Today I covered the bin. But allowed her to access from behind. So I will see if that works. I just want to mAke sure she does not stress out. Does it normally take this long to lay the eggs.

Hi, I am thinking this is the female you bought from me? If so, I'll give you a tip. For some reason, all the girls from this bloodline that I have kept will only lay in sand or a mixture of mostly sand with some eco earth. I can't tell you why because I know many people say panthers will lay in dirt, but my Fuego girls do not seem to like dirt. Try some sand, make it damp enough for a good tunnel. I use bathroom trash bins that are about 10-12 inches deep. I think she will lay for you if you try that. Keep us posted.

well I went out and got eco earth and a topsoil mix - mixed together and let her at it. went to work today and when I got home she was at the top of the cage,,,I was not able to watch her today but her nose was dark with dirt and there was a small hole in the dirt(no eggs). I will check to see what she does tomorrow.
I just do not want her to get egg bound.... how long does that take?

Plants are instict for moister........(Nature)

I have only ever used moist play sand with all my Chams...

If she is drinking, then she is good for now:)

Females will test dig, make sure she has a happy point. Don't disturb her and make sure she has PLENTY of privacy:) (Things she can see)

There is no fixed length of time.
Some of my girls would dig a single hole, leave the eggs, fill the hole and go back to eating and drinking within a single 24 hour period. Another one took a few days, digging a test hole or two, before settling into the job.
Almost all of mine have wanted the top of the sand / dirt to be the lowest place in the cage, so I had to stuff towels around the edges if the laying bin was smaller than the full cage floor. I always put a few sticks leading to the bin, including one or two jammed into the sand as if they were plants coming from there.
Check on her only at night, or very very discreetly so she doesn't see you. Even catching a glimpse of you might put her off. You don't want this to go on much longer.
If she chooses the plant pot over the medium you provided, let her

She did lay a large clutch of eggs - 36 in total. wow.
she started eating right away and seems really thirsty... it has been about 5-6 days and she still seems really sleepy and does not move around that much. she does not seem her self. is this typical
