female cham health problems.

Hello,

I've had my female veiled chameleon (Rubik) for about 5 months now and recently she has been keeping both her eyes shut and has been a little more lethargic than usual, she is also far paler than normal. I know this means she is sick but I can't call the vet till monday because they aren't open on the weekends. Even when I call them who knows when i'll be able to get get an appointment. Her eyes are not sunken in at all so I don't believe it is dehydration, but there is a blue tinge to the bottom of her eyes, possibly an infection in both of them though i can not remember if they were always like that. Any help on what it could possibly be will be greatly appreciated.

few other questions i have right now.

-She maybe gravid as her resting position is slightly inflated, I have a sand box down for her to use, as well as moss, but I'm not sure if she can find it due to her eyes. Can holding eggs and the eyes be related? I doubt it, but it would be nice to know for sure.

-Also I could too much UVB be causing the eye problems?

- It is 80 in my house right now, warmer in her cage. Can it be too warm for a chameleon.

Thanks for your help.

What kind of UVB do you have? Coiled or linear?

How much are you feeding her?

It should be 80-81F only in her cage.
Because it helps her not to have HUGE clutches

It's a coiled 5.0 UVB, I'm in canada so it's usually only around 80 in my house during the day, and much cooler at night. So around 79-83 during the day (in the summer) and around 70-75 at night. I feed her meal worms powdered with calcium and a multivitamin every other day as well as gut loaded (I'm told*) crickets in a separate container in her cage at most times. I've looked up a care sheet before I got her and I thought I was doing everything right. Should I change certain things?

* The place where I buy my crickets say they gut load them, but I'm going to start doing that on my own now to make sure they are.

The coiled bulb MAY be the problem.
What brand is it and can you look on the box and see what year its from?

Im totally opposed to coiled bulbs and I would suggest gettin a linear tube bulb.

I used a 5.0 coiled reptiGLO with pedro and it messed his eyes up.
After I removed the coiled bulb and got him a reptiGLO 5.0 TUBE light his eyes
turned back to normal within a couple of days.

Also. make sure you dont over feed her. She should be eating every other day like you said but not TOO much. I dont recommened meal worms because their high in chitin. Smaller super worms, or silk worms would be a way better feeder than meal worms.

Is the calcium you use WITH D3? or withOUT d3?

The multivitamin should be giving once a month because gutloading your crickets the right way will provided most of the vitamins. The mulitvitamin powder is just to fill in missing spots.

The MAX temp in her cage should be no more than 80-81 degrees

For the closed eyes try some extra long very warm mistings until you can get her to the vet. Where do you live? We might be able to help you out with a good chameleon vet in your area.

Here's a link to show you all the supplies and proper lights that you need for your veiled. https://www.chameleonforums.com/blo...-keepers-young-veiled-panther-chameleons.html
