Feet

I’ve had my baby guy for 2 weeks today. I have been noticing that one of his front feet has no nails on one side. He has 3 little toe things, then 2 toe things on the other side, but those 2 do not have claws. Then the back foot on one has 3 little toe things, but only 2 claws, the 2 on the other side with both claws. It doesn’t seem to affect his climbing at all, he is a very active climber. Is this just a deformation? He has a vet appt in 2 weeks, but figured I would see what you guys thought. Could they still be developing?

They lose nails or parts of nails from climbing on the screen. Happens all the time, especially when that young and the nails are more soft. As long as toes and feet dont start to swell up it should be no problem and they wil grow back. Prevent this by filling his enclosure with sticks and lives plants so he has many other things to climb on.

He’s in a glass cage for now, to keep up the humidity with a screen top. He has a live pothos and many sticks/wooden dowels as well. He has been seen climbing on the top though, so that may have been what happened.

Those temps are fine for a juvenile. Some chameleons are just screen climbers. Only other thing i would recommend is getting that chameleon a new enclosure, chameleons are arboreal they like to be high up. That tank doesnt look more then 12 inches tall. Im assuming youre using it for a grow out enclosure, but its time to put him in something larger and taller.

I have a 16”x16”x30” one I am getting ready for him. Looks like I will hop on that sooner now. I kept my girl in that same cage until she was about 3 months and then moved her to the ^. Now she’s in a 4 1/2 x 3 x 3 foot. He will be upgraded to the huge one eventually. It’s just so dry here, that humidity is my main issue.

Yes its time to give him an upgrade. I would rank enclosure size higher on the priority list then day time humidity.A Night time humidity spike can easily be obtained by a humidifier or fogger. If you go all live plants in his enclosure this will also help with humidity.

I run a humidifier at night. I will have him in his new cage by Thursday. I am looking into a nice tree for his cage as well.

@cloverthechameleon I meant to post this last week... but, anyway, I got his new cage all set up. He just had his first shed since I’ve had him. I think he’s much happier.
