Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - Ganj, my yemen girly, was rescued about 3 weeks ago (friend had her in captivity for about one month, had soft bone from petsmarts complete lack of reptilian knowledge). I think she is 4-5 mo.s. Has compeletly gotten over the soft bone (havent had another xray but she can hang from one foot & tail while hunting, hasn't been on the ground since the second day in my care)

Handling - Twice a week at most, still worried about her stress levels from recent illness. But she loves the outdoor Uv rays (15 mins most due to extreme heat & dry weather here)

Feeding - About 10-15 crickets daily (depending on how interested she acts by time 2nd feeding come around), every other other day some mealworms. Working on getting her super worms and Dubias. Living in the desert makes finding live feed a little tough. & I hate the starving scary crickets from petsmart. Being young I still feed every day. I gutload crickets with a kale/seasame seed/egg yolk/tuna/sweet potatoe/apple diet.

Supplements - Reptivite with d3, reptoCal with d3, alternate between the two one feeding per week, looking today for the pure calcium drops i've heard talk of.. Both supplements have crazy high levels of vit a so i dont like using a lot.

Watering - I have a fogger, that also drips distilled water over a little vine into a bowl, refilling fogger with left over water, endless drip cycle. Mist about twice a day, morning showers I notice Ganj drinking off the corner off her mouth. mid-day mists for about 3 mins, i know she drinks off the leaves but ive only seen her do it maybe twice.

Fecal Description - I am positive previous owners did fecal check when first problems arose, none since in my care. Droppings seems to be less girth then my pinky, brownish grayish dark, but relatively all stuck together, slightly slimey but wouldnt go as far as too say runny, with urine, mainly white, still a little yellow. PS. When rescued she had nothing but a water dish for drinking.

History - Heh, didnt see this section, already included all history.

Cage Info:
Cage Type - Glass screen combo, 32x28x13.

Lighting - ReptiGlo 10.0 but set 5 inches from top of screen cage, 60w basking blu bulb, also set far from cage. 8am-9pm

Temperature - Multiple thermometers will show the basking area to be 85-95 (on really hot days here its hard to keep her temps down, constantly moving bulb, buying lower wattage asap), hunting/drinking area 70-78. At night drops no lower than 70. No lights on at night.

Humidity - Hygrometers read that the Fogger I use keeps the cage around 50-70%, at night/early morning drops to 40-50%. Occasional misting, not a night of course.

Plants - Been using fake vines with tall branches ive collected that are ideal for her hand size. Gonna buy possibly hibiscus or pothos today, really need humidity uppers. No substrate currently, considering wet wash clothes cycled out often (sorry cant recall who mentioned that )

Placement - Cage is in my art room, least trafficked room in the house. Air vents closed off. Cage top is above my head. Couple of small windows provide extra light the room

Location - Smack dab in the middle of the freaking Sonoran Desert, why people raise & sell chameleons out here, I will never know. But I love a challenge.

Current Problem -Started last week, rubbing her eye a little one day with back foot. Next handling rubbed eye on my hand. Couple days later saw her rubbing on a branch. She had just finished her shed when placed in my care (2 weeks prior) had a couple tiny patches of shed on body still, thought maybe she was working it out. Looks like she got a little bigger since day one, so possible she shed more recently, I know veileds will head-shed too.
So, rinsed eye with morning showers to help her work it out. Doesn't seem to be helping.
Within the past couple day, eye looks swollen or saggy, almost. I guess kind of puffy. Definitely irritated, but she can still open it just fine, just looks sunk in when she looks at me. Haven't noticed any weird discharge, a couple mornings before showers I noticed a small bubble on irritated eye. Also, when she sleeps, she doesn't close it!!! Only the one eye, looks like she is still protecting with her inner lid, but the outer lid does not close.

Help? I've heard this might be a possible humidity issue?? Vitamin A shock???

Haha, I tried to provide as much info as possible, because most of you reply asking for a completed "how to help" form....

Sorry, I am worried about her and got a little carried away, I think my post is too intimidatingly long-winded for some to help.....

I will try to re-word and post later.

i cant personally think of a reason why the eye is staying open at night. is she able to close the eye while awake? Example guess: maybe lost eye site? super dry?

1.lights: what lights where used on her before? look at the pupil of the eye and see if it is deformed.

2.humidity: you are aware of this. drape a wet towel over the side of the cage if your not able to maintain humidity and live plants.

3.supplements and schedule needs to be modified.

without pics im just going out on a limb.

Got some pictures!!

I got a few pictures, not the best quality, don't know if it will help really, but here goes:

THE BAD EYE

The Good Eye

See, the first, bad eye, looks saggy to me. Doesn't close during day either, appears to me she is still using it when hunting, but not AS MUCH as the other eye....
Humidity is at a good constant 70% now (added plants), and Ganj keeps hanging out DIRECTLY below the Fogger spout so she is getting rained on all morning.

Anyway, hope that help you help me.

You are using the wrong light. You have a reptiglo 10.0 rather than a 5.0. The 10.0 is for desert animals, not your chameleon. I would also leave the lights on until 8pm, not 9.

I see some issues, so I'll do this rather than many posts.

A little misting outside can help dealing with the heat.

Feeding - About 10-15 crickets daily (depending on how interested she acts by time 2nd feeding come around), every other other day some mealworms. Working on getting her super worms and Dubias. She doesn't look tht young to me. I'd cut her food way down. You said she had soft bone, i'm guessing lack of calcium. If she starts producing eggs, you're gonna have many troubles. I'd start feeding her every other day 5-6 crickets or the equivalent in nutritional value of other feeders.
Supplements - Reptivite with d3, reptoCal with d3, alternate between the two one feeding per week, looking today for the pure calcium drops i've heard talk of.. Both supplements have crazy high levels of vit a so i dont like using a lot.
Again, soft bone wont get fixed like this. You have to dust the feeders with calcium WITHOUT D3 EVERY feeding. Dust with calcium WITH D3 twice a month and herptivite (W/O D3) twice a month. This is the supplementation schedule I use and many others here use. Excessive D3 is just as bad as lack of it. And your girl needs calcium so you need the calcium without the D3
I use a fogger, only when necessary. Mist 2-3 times a day. Get a dripper ASAP. That will keep water available for her so she can get all the water she needs when she wants to.

Im guessing 32 is the height? If so, then you're ok for now. I'd plan on getting a much bigger enclosure though.
Lighting - ReptiGlo 10.0 but set 5 inches from top of screen cage, 60w basking blu bulb, also set far from cage. 8am-9pm
As I said on my previous post, that 10.0 has to go.
Temperature - Multiple thermometers will show the basking area to be 85-95 (on really hot days here its hard to keep her temps down, constantly moving bulb, buying lower wattage asap), hunting/drinking area 70-78. At night drops no lower than 70. No lights on at night.
those temps are too high for your girl. Shes gonna be producing huge clutches of eggs from having so much food and heat available to her. That is BAD news if she has had bone problems. 80-82 should be the tops on that female so she doesnt produce gigantic clutches. I understand you're in the desert, but you gotta do what you can to bring that down.If you're not able to get a lower wattage bulb, I wouldnt use one.
Humidity - Hygrometers read that the Fogger I use keeps the cage around 50-70%, at night/early morning drops to 40-50%. Occasional misting, not a night of course.
Again, mist mist mist. I cannot stress it enough. If you cant do it, get a mistking and it'll do it for you

Get a schefflera. It'll help you keep the humidity up.

one thing i can add..you can try using a small amount of eye rinse (saline solution) and noticed that you are re-using water to refill...only use fresh water if the thing goes dry real fast put it on a timer to turn on for 30 mins then off for 30 mins..
