Hi guys

So my 2 year old chame has been pretty sick the last two weeks. We thought we were gonna lose her but she one tough cookie!! She has MBD( through no fault of me, we adopted her!)... :( So the vet has been by my side in getting her back up an strong again!! She has responded well to treatment an is now at home where I am currently nursing her back to health! She still pretty weak an I have to prompt her to eat because her mouth/tongue. So I gave her 5 meal worms today. I was just wondering if there was anything I should give her that may be more nutritious to help build her strength back up??
Thanks guys x

I would not give her meal worms, they are hard to digest. Super worms (Zophobas morio) would be a better choice since they have a much thinner shell. Worms have a much higher fat content, and more calories, so it might be a good boaster. You can also try some phoenix worms. Other than that, my sickos like peach baby food from a dropper with a little rep vit and calcium mixed in.

Disclamer! This is not advice, I am simply asking others that could this work

One day I was wondering if it is possible to feed a cham protein/carbohydrate powder meant for bodybuilding, in a situation where it is unable to eat, but it is able to drink water dripped on it's mouth by a syringe.

I guess protein powder made from milk products are a definate no-no, but how about vegetable protein that is isolated from soy? I understood that insects are mostly protein, and that most plant products are fine for chams?

And as carbohydrates, the kind of maltodextrine (long chained?) that takes longer to break up then opposed to sugar?

How does this sound: Weighing 0,12 grams of the soy powder, and 0,12 grams of maltodextrine, and mixing it with 2ml of water. When it is is evenly mixed, then feeding it to the cham via syringe, as in first stimulating it by dripping water from another syringe on the tip of it's mouth to activate the drinking reflex. When this is started, start dripping to his mouth/tounge the mixture?

Not sure if she would be able to tackle a horn worm, but this would make a nice meal. I would also recommend not using meal worms. Super worms would be a better choice. You might also try some small crickets that are gutloaded and would be easier to handle than large sized ones. If all else fails, you could whip up a cricket/supplement smoothie and feed her with an eye dropper. I would try to feed her a few times early in the day so she will have enough time to digest before lights out. Good Luck nursing her back to health!

Crickets, roaches, silkworms, hornworms, pheonix worms, and superworms (freshly molted would be best.) For the roaches, superworms, and crickets crush the heads and feed them to her dead if she cant use her tongue.

It's very kind of you to have adopted a cham that needs a lot of extra care.
It's excellent that you're working with a vet to help her to heal.
I would think that a high calcium feeder like Phoenix worms would be especially helpful for a cham recovering from MBD.
Have a look here for the nutrition content:

You can order from them directly, from other places that carry feeders and some petstores even carry them.
Pssh recommended number of good feeders and like others have said, mealworms aren't easy on the digestive system--which is adversely affected by MBD--so I'd eliminate them for now, at the very least.

Anttu, I think that it is pretty risky. Cham nutritional requirements are very different from ours and feeding a sick cham something that isn't already tried and true might have disastrous consequences.

Thanks everyone for your advice, unfortunately we decided it to be best to have Margie put down this morning! The specialist believes she had some sort of neuological problems now not mbd as her coordernation in all four legs was terrible! I got married 4 weeks ago an went on honeymoon for 2 weeks an left her in the care of a good friend!!?? I ve asked her an she said that she didnt see her fall or anything.. but hey I think it was just a terrible accident! Much love one heartbroken Chame lover x x
