Feeding time

What is the appropriate age to be feeding a chameleon every other day? Right now I'm feeding my veiled as much as 11-20 small mealworms a day, dusting with calcium. He's about 3-4 months old. I used to just give him crickets but he got sick of them so I'm waiting a bit. Here's a picture of when he got mad at me. Maybe the size can determine my next move whether it be once a day, every other day, and upgrade to medium size (cause I'm still nervous he might be to small for medium size anything. Thank you!!(ps. All of my friends, girlfriend and brother say he is getting big but I haven't noticed enough to change his food size cause I don't want him to choke) ImageUploadedByTapatalk1362587955.863688.jpg

Well the rule of thumb is the width between his eyes for feeders. Mealworms shouldnt really be feed that often maybe you should try so different feeders like phoenix worms, silks, butters, mantis, and other things. He still looks small to go to every other day. Most chams dont go to every other day until about 1 yr old. More people should chime in

Yea he got sick of crickets so I have to wait like week so he will go for them again. If I mix the crickets and mealworms right now, he will only eat the mealworms and completely ignore the crickets

I agree with JohnDoe. Giving him only one feeder is not very good. Mealworms are not very nutritious and are hard to digest. There are lots of different feeders out there . My suggestion would be to try some.:)

Your cham will let you know when hes ready to do every other day feedings.

When he stops eating everyday for several weeks in a row, its time to switch.

It normally occurs somewhere around 8+ months. But that doesnt mean when he hits 8 months do every other day feedings.

As for the only crickets thing, you need to feed more than one type of bug, or they do go on hunger strikes.

try looking on some of our site sponsors to find other appropriate sized bugs.

I've only been doing crickets and mealworms cause that's all that's available and super worms are way to big. He hasn't gotten on any hunger strikes since I've had him but I'm still not sure if he is ready for medium size anything

Then you aren't ordering from the right people.

Bugs should come next day or max two day air.

Just wanted to chime in about ordering bugs on line. I just received my order from Mulberryfarms.com and I am super happy with my order. I ordered on Sunday, they filled my order Monday afternoon and I got them this morning. I didn't see any dead worms in either cup. They were packaged nicely and arrived in great shape. Oh and they have several specials that include shipping.
