Feeder Worms. Which Should I Use?

So, i'm thinking of ordering some feeder worms from Mulberry Farms but am not sure what to go with. I already have some Horn Worms and have been feeding them to Hugh for the past 4 days but now have gotten too big for him. I was thinking maybe Reptiworms or Silks. What do you guys think I should go for?:D

silkies!!! they are super good for your cham and are cute at the same time! you need to get the mulberry chow for them though because mulberry is the only thing they eat!

They are out of the small Silk cups but i'm going to go ahead and get the other cup and mention that I want smalls. Hmmm... Should I?

lol silkies are a love hate thing, they are really good for your cham, but sometimes they just keep dying off and for the amount of money you spent on them doesnt add up with what you are able to feed to your cham :p

Really? Are they like crickets? I hate that crickets die off so quickly... Should I go with Pheonix worms? I have a place I can get about 20 roaches for 5 bucks, should I just go pick up some roaches? I'm only looking to spend 20 dollars and with shipping costs and everything, it's much more than I would like to spend.:(

My guy much prefers wormy things to crickets...

I use phoenix/calci/repti/soldier worms (pretty much all the same thing!) and silkworms as the main bulk of his diet, a few mealworms to supplement his diet (stop him having squitty poo!) and he has his daily medications injected into a wax worm daily.

I think you should go with roaches, they are actually really really easy to breed. Well depends on the roach species, i have dubias and havent really noticed it getting bigger but ive only had it for a little while haha. So if you want a renewable feeder source go with dubia roaches. Ive never tried phoenix worms, they arent available around me that much.

I have only tried Hornworms and Waxworms but Hornworms grow WAY too quickly. Anyone here in SD willing to split shipping costs? I live in North Park, 92104. :D My feeder buddy won't need any feeders for another month and I need some now. ;)

Have you gone to Pet Kingdom off of sports arena??? You may be able to get a few bugs there to get you by for now!!!

I already ordered some Reptiworms and some Butterworms that should last me a while. I do still need to go get some Crickets to last until the worms come in. Damn you you fast growing Hornworms lol!:p

Yay! Got my reptiworms and butterworms today. Hugh seems to LOVE both, he just a te a Butterworm and 2 Reptiworms with no fuss or spitting out so I hope he keeps it up. So far I have been giving him Crickets, Hornworms, and the 2 I got today.

hey hey. you can't gutload reptiworms. Butterworms I've tried gutloading the night before at room temp, but I really doubt it does much(not sure how effective this really is).

Cool thing about superworms is that they are cheap(buy 1000 micros, will last a WHILE!) and just gutload them in good ol cricket crack, adding slices of potato or apple for moisture(make sure to replace them!). No more hornworms for you until Hugh gets bigger. Tiki tiki reptiles sells cricket crack (I'm willing to split shipping with you)

As for the silkworms, I still have to order an incubator today and then get eggs, dishes, food etc. Do you have any superworms for now?

Yeah, I read that you can't gutload those which is totally cool with me. I edited my post and took that part out, thanks for making me look like a loser. Lol!:p Jk I don't even have to dust the Reptiworms! Those guys should last me a while so i'm happy about that. Some of the Butterworms are pretty FAT and juicy (shivers) squishy. :)

Im slightly confused, only worms i no of are waxworms and mealworms which i no are just treats, also tryed fruit beetle grubs wich my yemen wouldn't eat, from reading ive seen that Silkworms are a favourite, are they treats??? Or something i can feed staple??? I may have to find a supplier !!!!

Hey Yoshi, silkworms can be a staple(no real issues with fat or chitin). Mulberry farms is awesome I think. You might want to try that first. They even sell ready to go cups with food and worms, just let them sit and chow until ready to feed em.

So I wonder how many silkworms you would feed them instead of doing the crickets. Diego is 5 months & eating about 12 crickets daily. How about hugh? How many worms do you give hugh? I've given Diego wax worms a couple times, once with the crickets (less cricket that day & a couple worms) and once when I was waiting on crickets we gave him 3 wax worms but not sure if that was a good amount or not for the day. Not sure is small wax worm & small silk worms would be the same either. Do you ever add the Calcium power on the worms? I just gave him them plain. TIA

Well i'm not totally sure about the amount I should give him but I gave Hugh 10 small crickets and when giving him Horn Worms i'd give him 2 small... I just fed him a Butterworm and 2 Reptiworms today. Reptiworms are small and don't have to be dusted because of their high calcium. I'm still reading myself about what feeders need to be dusted and which don't. :)

Oh and another thing, I guess you can just eye the size of the worms and the size of your Cham. If given small Silks i'd say give him about 4 or 5. Keep in mind I have never dealt with Silks but again, I'd say just to kind of eye the size and go from there. Sorry I wasn't much help...;)

Ok Spartan refuses to eat crickets, but as soon as he spot a superworm he goes right after it. I guess he is tired of em. So my question is can I make superworms his staple food? If I can do I dust, can you gutload? what other options do I have other then roaches and crickets. Roaches I just found out are gonna be out of the question, seems everyone in my house is strongly against it.

Wow, I really need to get schooled up on this worm thing... I've never heard of Reptiworms! I've stuck w/ crickets, except for the couple wax worms, for about 7 weeks now. I better start researching more on worms. Thanks Gabby!
