Fat male Vieled

this chameleon confuses the shit out of me.

1. the small casque and the skin being stretched as if the cham has eggs.

2. has tarsal spur and has the coloring of a male.

A. put a laying bin for some giggles. i would like to see what happens.
or
B. put that cham on a diet
or
C. what are you gutloading with exactly and what are your supplements and schedule. edema of sort maybe?

I feed my crickets PREMIUM BLEND CRICKET FEED and many assorted different veggies, all that are on the List being safe for chameleons. I dust the crickets before introducing them to the chameleon with RepCal calcium, once every 3 days, and i also use RepCal calcium w/D3 about once every 2-3 weeks. and sometimes in between i use Herptavite lightly just to make sure he is getting a little but of everything, but he also has once a week Silkworms, and because i order them as mediums from a online supplier, im not really sure what they feed them. He eats about 5 crickets in the morning and about 5 at night, around 5 days a week, spread out. He is set with a 5.0 UVB, and basking lamp sufficient to bring a basking area to 95+ and night time Red making sure his enclosure stays at max 85 up toward the top and both give him the range to seek comfortable temps as he pleases.
(I will admit the several different angles im getting from everyone is confusing,Lambeau is a young chameleon almost 4 months old, so his crest wouldnt be huge yet, if you look at the pic of him in my hand you will notice he isnt a adult at all, he is just thick.
I will put a layin box in his enclosure, its large so i will have no issue fitting one in, but im pretty sure its NOT a female. And i as directed have already decided he needs a diet, i fed him this morning but only gave him one cricket tonight, i will most likely only feed him in the mornings so he has all the day to absorb the nutrition while basking and hanging out. I will still give him silkworms, they are like his treat. If he lays eggs i will be awfully surprised and grateful i posted.

Haha Go Pack Go! I was wondering if you were a cheesehead based on the cham's name. Good choice.

In my opinion he's just a chubby young male, but the egg laying bin for posterity's stake wouldn't be a bad idea. It never hurts to be cautious.

LOL!! the stadium is Green, Gold, and White.....so it fit, and better yet, he kicks ass, just like the Packers :D
And yes GO PACK GO cheesehead all the way.

and im definitely gonna try the egg laying bin, these guys know what they are talking about, so i'll take there word for it.....well im pretty sure he is a Male, but likewise its a good idea and its better to be safe..well..rather then sorry.
GO PACK GO~(ready for the season)

o m g !! that chameleon is only 4 months...

at that age his casque should be small. you may possibly have the biggest 4 month i have ever seen. anyways, i would trim the guy down a little bit (instead of 5 at each feeding try 4 and so on until he reaches a figure resembling a little more fit) he clearly has a very slow metabolism.

your basking temps need to come down a tad bit to 90*, ambients low 70's and no need for a heat lamp at night unless your house gets down into the 50's.

Lambeau came from the herp center in our area when he was as big as or smaller then my pinky finger, a few of his siblings live in the area, one of witch is part of a family we are close with, we have noticed that Lambeau is much larger then Grafinki (his brother) not so much longer, just always thicker. The sire's name is Colbalt, and the Dam is Pelski. Both average size Veileds. It was actually the fact that when i was over at Grafinkis home a day ago with the family i noticed that Grafinki was much skinnier, thats when Dan gave me the idea to come on this site, he uses this site when he has questions. I will make sure tomorrow when Lambeaus up and about to get some pics so you can see that he isnt a adult, just a fatty the fills the camera lens, and it doesnt help that when i take the camera out he gets all flared up with his chin and stuff puffed out. I will still put the laying box in tomorrow, ill go to the Herp Center, they will set me all up, and after all the confusion i am most likely gonna bring him with me to get a check up from the Doc...to make sure he isnt a she and etc... I bring my Iguana Ruben for annual check ups, he is 5 and is the reason me and the family fell in love with Reptiles in general, he too began so small and now i believe reaches about 5 1/2 ft, but ultimately a sweetheart..occasionally whips at the dogs with his tail, but loves our daughter...our crazy zoo house we are creating. lol, I imagine Lambeau is gonna be a beast or atleast a contestant on The Biggest Looser

Please try to put something recognizable in the picture with Lambeau so we can get an idea of his size. Ideally, you could get him to climb on a ruler...but that might not be easy to accomplish. So, put something "standard" in the picture. When I photograph my crochet stuff I put either a Diet Coke can or a quarter in the picture (depending on the size of the critter).

One question: in the picture, his neck is very puffy looking. Is that "angry Lambeau" or is that how he always looks?

although he is thicker all around, that is Lambeau puffing angry, when he is just chilling he doesnt have a puffy neck, thicker neck, but not puffy,he hates the silver camera, but you requested a pic, pictured next to a average 12 oz. can Coors, simply cause it was handy

He's too young to be drinking beer!

That really does drive home the fact that he's not full size. Thanks.

It's a shame being pudgy isn't healthy, because he's sure cute. Stretched out like that, he doesn't look as "pregnant", more just chunky.

Lambeau is gonna be angry with me for awhile while he looses some weight, we went to the Herp Center this afternoon and he had a ruff one while they examined him, and took some blood. We also had to bring some of his poop. The results havent came back from the blood test yet and it could be a few days or even a week, but he was determined without a doubt to be a male, they probed for his hemipenis...because i guess with his size the bulges weren't clear, i personally didnt realize he had a hemipenis, i knew he must have somthing but didnt know what it was called, but thats what they wrote down. They also said he was overweight but thick all around and his weight should be decreased over time to make sure he doesn't develop health issues, but the doc said he had great awareness, was quick, and had a strong grip great bones and etc, so he was overall happy with him but said he needed to be on a diet to burn some of his excess fat. I felt really bad. poor guy was hissing and bascially flying he wanted to escape so bad. But i let him know that the temporary discomfort wasnt going to be as painful as the bill.... Anyway, i will make sure to post pics as the weight loss starts and let everyone see his progress, i imagine that crest of his will get bigger and his colors will come in more, the vet did say that i can expect Lambeau to be a very decent size chameleon with a good appetite and strong joints. So im pretty happy about him and embarrassed i basically have been over feeding him. Thanks everyone

HEMIpenis that thing must be huge if its a hemi! lol jk I couldn't resist :/. Not to go off topic, but till what age should chams begin to be fed like adults? I'm not sure what age mine is because the pet store I got him from was just as clueless as me. I'm assuming he is from six to twelve months.

Now he looks like a normal little boy veiled, just a little over weight. I wouldn't go to every other day just yet.....wait another month or two on that. Just feed him once a day and not twice.

We started the morning with a simple 4 crickets, and later around five he is gonna get 1 more, just so his routine isn't completely altered, over the next week or so his second feeding will be discontinued, and if he gets a snack it will be no more then 1 or 2 in the afternoon feeding. I had the day off today so i was able to watch him move around, he has visited his feeder bucket a few times and spent some time drinking from the dripper that hits the leaf below it, he drank for a while and then proceeded to bask, he is now just chilling in the middle area of the cage. I was glad to see him eating and drinking because i know he was stressed from yesterdays visit to the doc, but it looks as though he is right back to being carefree Lambeau, and hopefully with time he will get rid of some of that pesky weight, im gonna make sure to take pics along the way and post as he becomes a new man, just wait the ladies will love him :)

Cause baby i was born this way ;)

Doing good with the diet, and been getting him outside more often to soak up some real sun and hangout in the small trees in our yard, this pic was great simply because he made his way to a branch and then stopped and spotted some temptation, i know his one eye was on it, he resisted, i was proud of him :D

Perhaps worth mentioning: There are definitely females with tarsal spurs, not so many, but they exist.

i never heard of that but you learn something new each day. but in the second pic the stripes and design give the sex away. nice little boy you have there.

older post, but Lambeaus blood test came back today.... a healthy young man :)
his diet is going great, he just had a shed and is still getting bits off his feet, but other then that, great shed and vibrant skin... pics to come soon :D
