F. pardalis swollen eye

Hi all,

my young F.P have problem with one eye. His eye is about 4 hors swollen and very often close.He turning with eye around I saw him scratch eye by branch. Please see photos. Do you have any experience with this problem ?

Do you have a chameleon vet? I would get his eye checked out by a good chameleon vet.

You may be thinking its swollen but he is just cleaning it out and moving it around. Possibly something may be in it. Try putting him in the bathroom with a steamy shower running (not on him). This can give him moisture to get an object out.

When I first had chams I didn't know they were cleaning their eyes out. Its normal.

Hi,

it starts tomorow and till evenning was swollen . I watched him in the morning and it seems that eye was normal (may be little bigger) but he is still turning around with eye close them for a while and open .... May be reason of swollen is scratching eye by branch. I dont know ( When i tried if he is able to shoot grass-hooper he shoot him in few seconds with both eyes opened.

I would try the long shower and maybe some saline solution to put in his eye and if not better by Monday......I would take him to the vet. He's a beautiful guy and I'd hate for something happen to him.

yesterday i was in vet with my panther. He told me that reason of his eye problem is bite by insect and in wounds was affected by mold. He give him syringe and we will see.

Good job going to the vet....

This thread shows why it's important not to wait too long if the eye has some sort of issue. You've done the right thing by going to the vet after giving it a day or so to get better with showers, etc. If an eye issue does not get better vet examination is necessary. They have special tools to look closely at the eye to detect tiny scratches, etc. Things we can't see. Eye conditions can go downhill quickly and lead to permanent vision loss. Let us know how his treatment goes. Hope he gets well soon

The uh oh was probably about you compact bulb, they have been reported to cause eye problems in chameleons. Most keepers will recommend you use a 5.0 Reptisun linear tube for UVB lighting.

i saw warnings regarding to zoomed's compacts but not exotera ...i know about this forum "witchhunting" regarding to all compact bulbs ) .... In europe are compact bulbs used often ... i saw outputs UVA UVB and UVC from measurements and exoterra products are not so strong like zoomed's .... I have bigger terrarium with tubes but small one with compacts .

You can consider it a witch hunt if you want to...but I would say it was just a precaution/warning/something to consider as a possibility.

yes i agree that is very important know about problems , but when zoomed have troubles it doesnt mean tha every producer compact bulbs have same troubles .... I already tried switchoff uvb for 2 days before i was in vet but state was same (it was my first idea because you never know .... o ) .... Now is 4 days after syringe it seems better .... but we will see ...

anyway thanks a lot to everyone who try help to me and my panther ....

Today is situation more confused. He start sleep during tha day .... he close both eyes ... its very strange i dont have idea whats wrong .... im again replace uv compact for sure but i dont think that it will be helpfull.

any suggestion ?
