Hello All,

I'm a new comer! I have a panther chameleon and I find his eyes are slight sunken in. But his health is good and eat well. So what's the problem on his eyes?

You have to mist more often and make sure he is drinking plenty of water. Sunken eyes indicate that your cham is dehydrated.

Yep he looks thirsty! I would give him an extra couple minutes misting or may be even put him in the shower.

Put a good size plant in the shower aim the water against the wall so it ricochets onto the plant. Use temped water a good 15-20 minutes will help :)

oh and nice panther btw and welcome to the forum you askho!!!! HAHAH I got the joke. Your screen name reminds me of ILOVETOFU. If its not a joke and some japanese name then I'm really sorry!!

He needs a drip set up for him that runs all day and daily mistings. Since you are a new comer it never hurts to post the "how to ask for help" answers and post them. It gives other members details about your set up and husbandry and we may be able to correct small imperfections before they become a major problem or health issues for your cham. :)

He's very pretty. The lighting in chameleon cages tends to be very dramatic and it often increases the look of "sunken" eyes. If someone took a picture of you with the primary light coming down on your head, even a fill flash wouldn't be enough to keep you from looking like you have dark circles under your eyes.

It's never bad to offer more hydration opportunities and I'd certainly follow the recommendations about setting up a dripper and maybe even giving him a shower.

How rude was I! Welcome to the forum!! Your cham is beautiful!!

I LMOA when I read this!!!

Thanks for the advises.........:) Misting is twice a day and spread on fake plents and window glass. Surely the panther will lick the dripping water but I can see he's not drinking much! Since you all mentioned about shower, how to do that?

There are a lot of threads that mention this. The basic drill seems to be to put the chameleon on a plant that is either "safe" (not toxic) or fake and then put that plant in your shower.

Of course, the order of things is a bit weird. Before you put your chameleon in the shower you need to get it to the right temperature...so, bring the chameleon into the bathroom, set it down and work on the shower.

Unless you have a low flow shower head that gives a MIST, you should aim your shower at a wall. Check the temperature of the water coming off the wall. It should feel comfortably warm to you. Not hot. You should be able to keep your hand in it.

Then, put the chameleon and plant in the path of the "bounce back" from where the shower hits the wall...plan on this being a pretty long experience. Possibly 10 minutes or even more. You want your chameleon to decide he needs to drink and some chameleons take longer to make that decision than others. Some will make it quickly, but I suspect those chameleons handle the cage water so well they rarely end up in a shower.

Also, there's a sort of psychotic thing with chameleons and drinking....people will ask you "have you seen him drink?" (it's a question on the form) but then tell you that they never see their chameleons drink because they do that in private...so...I guess don't worry about whether you see the drinking, just worry about the signs of dehydration (sunken eyes, yellow "urate" (that part of the poop that should be white) ).
