eyes closed after laying

good luck, I hope she lays for you and makes a full recovery. I had to give a female oxytocin once and it worked within hours.

shes still high up and has her eyes closed, vet said i should bring her in tomorrow morning for another shot if she dosen't lay,he says he can give her 4 shots in total(over 4 days) before he would consider an op.She is fat looking still

She is still sitting up high, not quite near her basking spot, eyes still closed, can anyone tell me if i should move her into the laying bin myself??she had the shot of oxytocin at 11.45am this morning

My girl is so sick looking it's terrifying, she is still up in the vines, and showing absolutely no sign of laying for me,her eyes are closed and sunk in and her head is down ,i am so scared that she is dying,i'm going to lose her

Definately back to vet Ronnie, maybe Leave her there if thats possible, since the to & fro will be stressful In her condition.
Hoping you return with a happy story.

I have a follow up appointment at 10am tomorrow morning, surely the oxytocin would have kicked in by now?

Oh Ronnie, I really can't offer much help other than keep her hydrated and make sure you get her back to the vets as soon as you can. When Lily had the oxytocin the vet told me it works fairly quickly. It may take another shot for it to work as the vet already warned you. I know exactly how you are feeling and I just wish I could offer more help, but other than hydration, I really don't know what to suggest. I'll be thinking of you and Trixxi tomorrow.

Hi Tiff,i was hoping you would log on,oh what a day!where about on Miss Lily's body did the vet inject her(sorry for asking you:()

Don't be sorry Ronnie - if my experiences with Lily can help someone else then I am happy! The vet injected her back leg in her thigh I think. It bruised almost straight away and I felt sooo mean! The second shot (of wormer) was in the other back leg and bruised even more. Ugh. I really wish I could offer you more help. I read your post earlier, but I sometimes find it hard to reply straight away to these kinds of threads - hard to find the right words. :o

My vet injected Trixxi in the muscle at the back of her head and i felt so bad for her its unreal,i am so scared i am going to lose her she looks so weak and so sad looking i am terrified that every time i walk into my room that she will be gone,i feel so useless and helpless

Sounds like an odd place to inject *?* I would have thought a shot might have had some effect by now, But then I would have thought the vet might have asked you to leave her there in the first place so he could administer a further shot if nessary sooner than than, and observation just in case.
Has she returned to the lay box at all? Did he mention Hydration at all?

The one thing she is doing is drinking!although her eyes are still sunk in,when i got home from the vets i put her in her laying bin and she only stayed in for about 5 min and then she climbed out,she has showed no interest in it since, should i try to put her in there now?it's just gone 9pm here,i'm not sure if i should turn her lights off,i'm scared that when i turn them back on she will be gone:( The vet said that i should take her home as they can't do anything different than what i'm doing, keeping her watered, observe her

No, I wouldnt alter her photoperiod, you dont want to add stress, if its normally lights off, turn em off and let her rest. With any luck the hormone will do its work overnight.
Time for that bottle of whiskey! :)

Off to vets for 2nd shot, woke to find her in the laying bin,she showed no sign of digging during the night and as soon as she left the bin i looked for any eggs, none there,so heading yo vets now

Well she had her 2nd shot at 10.30am today and so far no sign of digging, she looks absolutely exhausted and i'm not sure she would have the strength to dig even if she wanted to,i dug a hole for her and put her in it but she just lay there, every so often opening her eyes and then closing the again,i picked her up(she had been in the same spot since 11.30am now it's 4.20pm) and put her up nearer her light because she felt cold, when she was up there she pushed some creamy coloured, thick fluid out of her vent(only a tiny bit) i have left her dripper on continuously and covered her back up,i don't think my girls going to make it,and she looks so sick that i can only presume that she is sadly in pain:(

Hi Tiff, yep,i read that thread. The vet said that he would rather persist with 2 more doses of oxytocin and then discuss surgery,to tell the truth i don't think she strong enough to even make the vets again,if she makes it though the night i am going to ask him to visit us at home tomorrow(a bit cheeky seeing it's a Sunday) but he did say he would see us tomorrow if she hadn't laid anything, shes so weak Tiff and her eyes,God you want to see her eyes:(:(
