I purchased a juvenile panther chameleon for my daughter on Christmas. I’ve been feeding him a mix between black solider fly larvae, super worms, and occasional horn worm. I give him daily repot calcium without D3 and once a week I give him Repashy superfoods calcium plus which contains D3. I hand mist about 3x a day, temp stays at 80 during the day and drops to 60s at night. Humidity Is a bit difficult for me to maintain, it doesn’t go higher than 80, but at times may drop to 40-50s. Yesterday, we noticed his eye looked weird and a bit small. When I misted I noticed he tried moving the eye a little and it seemed to look a little better but this morning it was back to the same way. I attached pics of his eye and his cage.

There are incorrect things being done in your husbandry, so after you make an appointment with an experienced chameleon vet, could you please fill out this form in as much detail as possible:

Chameleon Info:
  • Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
  • Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
  • Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
  • Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
  • Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
  • Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
  • History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Cage Info:
  • Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
  • Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
  • Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
  • Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
  • Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
  • Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
  • Location - Where are you geographically located?

Current Problem - The current problem you are concerned about.

Please Note:
  1. The more details you provide the better and more accurate help you will receive.
  2. Photos can be very helpful.

It wasn’t noticeable that he was shedding. A day later he started shedding and his Eye got better. You were right, thank you!
His eye does not look normal at all or look like it would if there was just shed... Looks infected.

I’m gonna tell you now in the nicest way I can because I want the best life for your cham, your enclosure will not cut it for him, the eye doesn’t look good, the sticks are placed very badly and most of them don’t look real, the basking bulb looks blue, you don’t have enough foliage, no real basking branch, I see no source of water for him, how are those tiny little “sticks” gonna hold him or even support him enough so he can get food or just in general? I’m telling you now your cham has a higher chance of dying with the conditions he’s living in 😕. So please fill out the form and post the pictures so we can help, also please don’t tell someone they’re wrong when you asked them to help you especially if they know a lot more than you and are more experienced in this, all they’re trying to do is help, I don’t know if it was just me but the way you worded it wasn’t very polite but I don’t know 🙂 Read through all of this please https://chameleonacademy.com/panther-chameleon-care/

I appreciate your feedback, but I think it’s rude of you to assummptions based on my response. Please do not tell me how to respond. Thank you.

I didn’t tell you how to respond.... @Beman knows what she’s saying she’s been doing this for a long time, you’re a new time keeper and judging off of what I see you’re still learning, just like all of us. I was saying that it sounded kind of impolite to me as in my opinion.... I asked you if you could please not tell someone they’re wrong when you asked them for their input. We just want to help your cham, so please fill out the form that has been posted so you can make all the necessary changes cause your enclosure now needs some work in order for your cham to live a good life. Thank you. 😊
