Eye problems

My juvenile veiled chameleon just recently started scratching his left eye with his feet and his branches and now he won't open it. I was wondering what type of eye solutions that humans use would be okay to use on his eye, I think he got something stuck in there and I've tried misting his eye with distilled water but he hates that and runs away. His other eye is just fine.

Plain saline solution. You can try flushing it, but hard to do with it closed.
