Eye Problems-Serious Issue

I see so many threads that references; eyes won't open, eyes always closed, so on and so forth and it really bothers me. People start these threads but don't follow up as to what the problem was or what they did to correct it. I wish more people would finish what they start and share with everyone. It hasn't happened to my chams but I want to have some knowledge if it does. It breaks my heart to know that a cham can't see and we as keepers need to know why this happens. I understand that it "could" be the lights, supplements, etc. but the ones who have experienced this should let everyone know what they did to correct the problem.

I agree. I have been experiencing eye issues with Molly and I post a thread updating everyone whenever there is a change. But that's because Molly is my princess :p

Well she had a large bubble on her left eye that just was not healing so a week ago the vet put her on antibiotics and told me to put a warm compress on it a few times daily, and this week we went back and she decided to just poke it with a needle to let it drain and a bunch of gunk came out. So now we're just giving her the antibiotics and an eye ointment called vetsporin and warm compressing it a few times daily. I also started giving her reptaid hoping it would help her and it is, I have seen an increase in her appetite, colors, and how much she walks around. That is it so far, it still looks gross but it looks a lot better than it did.

Part of the problem is that chams start closing their eyes for lots of reasons...it can be a symptom of various other issues and not an eye problem at all. They can start closing one or both eyes because of:

a direct injury to the eye
shed skin stuck in the eye
an infection of the eye or nasal cavity
in response to intense light or burns
general dehydration
general overall weakness from nutritional imbalances

So, hearing that a cham is closing an eye doesn't narrow it down too well. It's a sign that something isn't right, but more info will be needed to get down to the cause.

Exactly and wouldn't it be nice to know when someone "starts" a thread about their chams eyes closing they "follow it through" with the outcome and how it was handled? To me that is playing an important role in this forum, when you ask for help, follow through.

Well, yes it would be great, but some people never actually follow through with the cham, never find out what the problem was, and lose their animal. Then don't feel like exposing this to the forum.
