Eye infection recommendations?

My senegal cham has a possible eye infection in one eye. I noticed it a few days ago, but thought maybe he just got some debris in it. I gently dropped a bit of water on it and touched a little paper towel to it to flush, but he is still having problems. It looks swollen compared to the other eye, though also sunk in a bit at the same time, with extra rings of skin around the exterior. I can see no visible discharge or crusties, but one flake of something (skin?), he rubbed off on a leaf earlier. He has been rubbing that eye occasionally these last few days. He also keeps it closed a lot. I thought he may have been shedding, but that hasn't happened either. Is there any remedy I can buy online or at a store or home remedy I can try, or is a vet visit the only solution?Thanks PS No ficus (sap) in cage only 2 pothos

Have you already filled out the how to ask for help in a previous thread? Pictures of your setup help as well.

Try flushing with saline solution, make sure it's JUST saline solution and no added junk.

here is a pic of my enclosure and lights, although the vines and plants have changed since then and I now have my Habba auto mister set up. I have the Repti Sun 5.0 UVB and a 100 Watt heat lamp (big cage - 24x24x48). Sometimes I run the night heat lamp too (75 Watt) to bring the temp up to the 80s, with a hotter basking spot. senegals like it a bit cooler than others, so I don't always do this, the median temp is around 72-75.
I know vit a def is a big cause of the eye closing sometimes, but I don't think that is the prob here. I use herptivite with beta carotene about 1x a week and calcium w/o d3 every other feeding. I do calc with d3 1-2X month. I do have mineral-o with vit a on the way to give some alternative to the herptivite, just in case the debatable research on beta carotene is true.
I really think that it is an eye infection, and not too far advanced yet. Maybe debris got in it, and I will try to pick up some saline at cvs tomorrow and rinse it more. He rubbed the heck out of his eye on a leaf earlier.
I have just finished researching online some various topical treatments, and was wondering if anyone had any feedback on their validity and where to order them from or what store would have them:

-Teramycin
-Baytil
-Gentamicin drops
-Beaphar Reptile ointment

I know Senegals are extra prone to parasites, and I need to get a fecal float test too. Right now I'm looking for something mild to try before I take him in.

I do calc with d3 1-2X month"...herptivite has beta carotene (prOformed vitamin A)...when vitamin A comes into question with eye problems its always a lack of prEformed vitamin A that is said to be low.

Compact Florescent's have been known to cause blindness is reptiles. People use the tube UVB's instead. Like repti-sun 5.0. Here is the source of information:

UVB Light Revision

Upon checking, it is not a Repti-sun it is a Repti-Glo 5.0 (Exo terra). Its not a compact, just a regular flourescent. Thanks for that link about lighting, it was very informative.

I went by the pharmacy on the way home and looked for the plainest most pure saline solution they had, even talked to the pharmacist. Some had preservatives, all had some additives. I got the purest one I could find, the CVS brand Sterile Saline Preservative Free. However, the it says it has trace amounts of sodium chloride, boric acid, and sodium borate (as all the others did too). Does anyone know if this would be safe to flush his eye out with? Or maybe just some diluted warm salt water? I read from several sources to use saline solution but I wonder if this is it.....

I would take the chameleon to a exotics vet familiar with chameleons. That's the best way to find out what may be wrong with the eye, and what treatment would be appropriate. No sense in guessing
