Eye infection meds

I just got back from the vet. My 6 month old male panther has an eye infection. Has anyone ever heard of using Prednisolone and Ciprofloxacian Ophthalmic eye drops? Or has anyone used it before? When the vet put the Ciprofloxacian in his eye the skin around his eye turned black for about 15 minutes. She said that is normal because he is mad. I said that is not normal. That is stress.

What do you guys think?

Im not sure but normally my vet would proscribe gentamicin (not sure if its spelled that way)
to treat an eye infection,
With my panther baby I use to have I put a tiny drop of a saline wash
in his eye and it turned black the way you described and I panicked and
relooked the ingredients in the eye drops and it had some terymincin (not sure if spelled right) in it and it irrated his eye.

Im thinking its not a good thing.

Unless its some special bacteria that NEEDS that eye drop Id go back and ask her to give u some gentamicin :/

Do you know if that is the brand name, or the name of the medicine?

OH AND I JUST REALIZED ciproflaxcin is an antibiotic that is given BY MOUTH for humans,
I couldn't imagine being in a eye drop form...or atleast Ive never heard of it in any liquid form that goes into the eye...

I know, I tried to get her to give me the "G" word eye drop and she wouldnt.


And yes that is the name of the med. I did a search on it to. All I found was its a med for bacteria eye infections. So I dont know.

I thought I would give it the 48 hour trial. If I dont see an improvement I am going to go back to the vet. But it is going to be hard to convince a "Doctor" to give me a med that she doesnt know about. She is a quack but shes all I got.

Yeah. I think you have to search the whole name. Its Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride Ophthalmic solution

Tell her to look up the med if she doesn't know about it. It's a little silly to imagine a vet that doesn't know what Gentamicin is.

Gentamicin is a very popular and good eye drop for eye infections :/

I looked up the "G" word eye drop and the "C" word drop I got from the vet. And you know they are basically the same. From what I can tell. But I wonder is it because the "G" word must be more know for use with reptiles than the "C" word. I dont know, this is so hard when you dont know anything. I dont want him to be in pain or lose his eye. But I dont want to not treat him as well. Round and round I go.

Oh, sorry. Thats whats on the box. Unless I had a typo. Thanks for the link. That is what I thought it was. Basicaly the same stuff.
Im still going to try to get the "G" word med from the vet. If she will give it to me. Then I will stop using the other stuff.
And I have decided I WILL NOT use the Prednisolone Acetate Ophthalmic drops. I feel they are not nesassary.
And I have the oral Baytril as well. Of course she told me to give it twice a day. But Im NOT, I am just going to do it once a day. I have experiance with that stuff with my koi fish. Using it to much can cause kidney problems.

Ranger is doing much better.The meds seem to be working fine. His eye looks better. I have one question. Has anyone ever seen their cham turn dark while sleeping rather than the typical light colors? Ever since I started the meds he is dark at sleep. I am worried that this may be stress or somthing from the meds. He is eating and drinking and pooping fine like normal. Do you guys think it could be due to the meds in his system? Or somthing I should be consurened about?

How long after you give the chameleon the meds does it turn dark and go to sleep?

I give him the meds about 2 hours before bedtime. Then when the lights go off is when he turns dark.
